Copthorne Hotel Greymouth

Firstly I would like to say THAT ALL THE STAFF WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND HELPFUL But I had 2 terrible nights with your rooms. The first night, the couple in the room backing mine, opened their door to the hallway and the door linking our rooms outside and had 6 other people in their room, talking loud and laughing.I could hear everything that they were saying. I went down to reception at 1040pm and the lovely lady very kindly went up and told them to shut their doors, which they did, but there laughing and loud noise continued until 1130pm. I found out that the 4 couples were friends and were all on Level 4 and that is why they thought they could use the whole level to enjoy themselves. I looked forward to the Sunday night for a quiet night and a good sleep and was told the hotel was going to be very quiet with low numbers in that night. WRONG. Non English speaking visitors had their rooms on Level 4 rooms and again I had people in room 407 (I was in 406) and these people kept talking until 1040am, talking very loud and again I heard everything they were saying. People were in and out of their rooms letting the doors slam also. I cannot understand, if a Solo person is staying for 2 nights - why you would not put them in a quiet room on a less full level. I am a Pensioner and a friend was heading over to Greymouth and thought it would be great for me to get away for a couple of days to relax, as I have been going through a very stressful time in the last couple of months. I paid $385.56 for the two nights (a lot of money on a pension) and I did not expect to get no sleep and end up more stressful. Again I would like to say that the staff were amazing - I understand you do not know who is staying as far as wants on their booking, but whoever allocates the room, need to look at if there are sole people staying, then they should be put in a room on their own on a Level with which is not full, and a room which does not back, so they could perhaps have an enjoyable stay. Mine was definitely not enjoyable - it cost me a weeks pension - for no sleep. At this stage, if anyone asks me if I had a good time at the Copthorne, I unfortunately would tell them NO to the room - but a definite YES to the staff. Hoping for a reply from you.

Comfortable and well located

The rooms are great … remolded and clean. The exterior needs serious work… it is from the 60’s and shows it. I almost drove away but upon entering it was clear the interior was fine. Dining was another story … food prepared by the chef was fine but they were very understaffed. Bar tender didn’t know what she was doing and prepared an awful martini and when I sent it back she said it was too expensive and she couldn’t throw it out and start again … we all know after three shots the bottle is paid for … the resulting drink was awful! It took over an hour and a half to get dinner. Stay for the room but skip the dining room!
