CLARION HAVNEKONTORET

We had chosen this hotel, despite its high price, to spend our last night in Norway in comfort. Unfortunately, we were woken at 6:30 a.m. by major construction work directly outside our room, including cranes and heavy machinery, making it impossible to get any more sleep. We fully understand that the hotel itself is not responsible for the construction work. However, we were very disappointed that we had not been informed in advance about these disturbances, especially as the situation was clearly already known to the hotel. What was even more disappointing was the way our complaint was handled. After asking to speak with the manager, we were simply told that the hotel had already tried to discuss the issue with the construction company without success, that our comments regarding the lack of prior information would be passed on to colleagues, and that for anything further we should send a written complaint. For a hotel of this standard, we expected a much more attentive response to a situation that had directly affected the quality of our night. No real solution or meaningful gesture of compensation was offered on site. In the end, we paid the price of a high-end hotel without receiving what should be the most basic expectation of any overnight stay: the ability to sleep properly. Unfortunately, the way our complaint was handled only added to our disappointment.

Old hotel in an excellent location on the harbor. It's a shame that the mattress in room 506 is terrible. You sink right into it. A real nightmare for your back.

Cons: Overpriced for the quality of the room. Room is dated, and not in a hip, vintage way. Burned out light bulbs. Curtains don't close all the way. Bedding is tired and not inviting. Throw pillow on bed smells dusty. Elevators break down regularly. No hand rail on main entrance stone steps, especially important when it's raining. Pros: Main floor is beautifully historic. Staff is friendly. Location to key activities is excellent. Nice that they offer a complementary breakfast and evening snack/meal.
