We booked a Medium Double Room with Balcony and River View because of the hotel’s beautiful riverside location. While the setting is undoubtedly attractive, our stay was disappointing and did not justify the premium price we paid. Our biggest concern was that what we consider to be extremely important hotel policies were not disclosed before booking. We only discovered after arrival that guests were not permitted to consume any food in their rooms or on their balconies. This restriction was not disclosed on the Booking.com listing, during the booking process, or in the pre-arrival information provided by the hotel. Had we known this before booking, we would have chosen different accommodation. In all our years of travel, we have never stayed in a hotel that prohibited guests from consuming any food in their rooms or on their balconies, including food purchased from the hotel itself. This made the restriction even more surprising and reinforced our view that it is an extremely important hotel policy that should be clearly disclosed before guests make a reservation. We were also surprised to learn, after checking in, that the hotel’s room policy stated that staff would conduct a daily room inspection before 2:00 p.m. for safety reasons. This was another policy that we were not aware of before booking. Had this requirement been disclosed in advance, we could have considered it when deciding whether the hotel met our expectations. There was no kettle in the room on arrival. To the hotel’s credit, one was promptly provided after we requested it. We were also concerned about the bathroom in our room. The bath shower screen allowed water to escape onto the bathroom floor during normal use, creating what we considered to be a slip hazard. During our stay, the hotel fitted an additional seal, but the problem remained. We also had concerns about privacy. Our room was directly exposed to the outside pedestrian path, and people walking past could see into the room, allowing them to see much of the upper body of anyone inside. The large glass doors were fitted only with full blackout curtains, with no sheer or privacy curtains. As a result, our only practical option for privacy was to completely close the curtains, which also meant losing our river view and much of the natural light—one of the main reasons we booked a Medium Double Room with Balcony and River View. After we raised our concerns, the hotel offered us another room. However, it was smaller than the Medium Double Room with Balcony and River View that we had booked and was located in a noisier part of the hotel, so we did not consider it to be a comparable alternative. The hotel later offered us a very small credit, which we declined because we did not believe it fairly reflected the issues we had experienced. Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of our stay was the apparent attitude of management. We were left with the impression that these concerns were not regarded as significant from a guest’s perspective. In our view, the undisclosed hotel policies, the bathroom safety concern, the privacy issue and the proposed move to a smaller, noisier room were all legitimate concerns that deserved a more meaningful response. The hotel’s riverside location is beautiful, and the staff we dealt with were courteous and professional throughout our stay. Prospective guests should make themselves fully aware of the hotel’s policies before booking. In our opinion, important policies that may influence a guest’s decision to stay—including restrictions on consuming any food in rooms or on balconies and the hotel’s daily room inspection policy—should be clearly disclosed before a reservation is made. At the time of writing, to the best of our knowledge, these policies had still not been disclosed on the Booking.com listing or in the information provided by the hotel before arrival. We would not stay here again and would not recommend it to other travellers.

1. There was a fly around the breakfast..gross 2. If I paid this much money to stay here can you at least give me a real, adult pillow. The pillows they provide are small and are so flat you might as well not put them in rooms.. this would be the main reason never to come back to this hotel. 3. The shower wall? Can't call it a door but I guess they didn't want to extend it so you have to stay so close to the wall in order to not get water all over the floor. The shower tub is so deep if your an elder, I feel so sorry that your step into the tub is so high and god forbid with all that water that will be in the floor you don't slip and fall 4. You have one central place for everyone to iron clothes.. not a big deal unless your sooooo fast down the hall you have to bring whatever your ironing for a few days at once to avoid that long walk back and forth Other than these major issues the hotel was fine but the pillow and shower issue will be the train i cannot suggest this place to anyone

This hotel felt much more personalised than a chain hotel and had quite a country feel to it, though that did mean there were creaking floors, some rather old-fashioned features and only a basic lift to one floor. We had an attractive large room which included a sofa and chair on the ground floor, which had a beautiful sunny veranda overlooking the gardens and river/fjord. Overall a lovely aspect and good location for the hotel with pretty surroundings, short walks nearby and a convenient shop. The ensuite was rather poor and definitely needed moving into the 21st century, as did the provision of power sockets and USB’s for charging devices, but the wifi was very good. The breakfast and dinner we had on our one-night stay was okay but rather uninspiring (and also hot food was only lukewarm), though the actual dining area was beautiful and felt like a proper restaurant (rather than just a dining area as in some chain hotels). Our main complaint about our stay was the staff attitude in the bar. We had pre-dinner drinks in the bar, and sat at a table on the outside terrace as it was a glorious evening. After a few minutes we were asked if we were eating as well. When we said we were part of a tour group who were dining upstairs in the buffet area, we were told we couldn’t sit on the terrace as the tables were required for diners (though at the time there were plenty of empty tables). We were told we’d have to sit indoors, but nobody mentioned that we could have sat outside on a small seating area upstairs adjacent to the buffet restaurant. We only discovered this when we went up to eat. We were not alone: other people from our group had also been told to move - though at least they were allowed to stay “until the table was required”. We felt like we were treated as second class citizens - though of course the bar was happy to relieve us of the equivalent of £24+ for 2 glasses of wine!!!!
