Thon Hotel Hoyers

The rooms were nice and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the breakfast was a big disappointment. Most were empty much of the time, including juice, yogurt, pastries and Nugatti. The mirror moulds were almost raw, the eggshell was dry, and I also missed granola in the selection. I had heard from several that the breakfast should be very good here, so the expectations were high. Therefore, it was an extra pity that the experience did not live up to what I had looked forward to.

As a person who lives a lot at Thon hotels in the context of work, I am generally very happy – therefore the contrast becomes extra clear when it breaks. At Thon Hotel Høyers, we deliver a lot as usual: great hotel, nice staff and a breakfast that is all the best. This time I added and ordered steak for solid NOK 473, with expectations thereafter. What came out was... let's call it a small identity crisis on the plate. The fries seemed like they had given up life long before serving, and appeared more like a bunch of residue than something that belonged next to a premium dish. The steak was correctly fried (medium) and mild – so wrap there – but the taste had obviously taken the evening before me. Three oven-baked tomatoes looked like they had been through a tough week, and even the bearnaisen had “cracked” under pressure – which is rarely a good sign. Brokkolien, on the other hand, actually delivered and became the surprise hero of the evening. I can accept some self-criticism for coming an hour before closing hours, but at the same time this is a gathering for us who work late. Just then it means extra much to be able to sit down with a proper meal before a new laaaang working day. Unfortunately, the dinner did not meet the expectations this time, especially in terms of the price. At the same time it is important to say that the rest of the stay holds a high standard. Conclusion: I would love to come back – but next time it will be tempting to invest in breakfast and a solid dinner package for the evening.
