I recently stayed at Aiyanar Beach & Dive Resort in Anilao after winning a stay through the UPY2025 competition, and I had a fantastic experience from start to finish.
This was actually my third visit to the resort, which says a lot in itself — and once again, Aiyanar did not disappoint.
The rooms were extremely comfortable, spacious and beautifully maintained. The food was consistently delicious, and what really stood out was the warmth of the staff. Everyone was genuinely friendly, welcoming and always smiling, creating a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere throughout my stay.
As an underwater photographer, I particularly appreciated the excellent diving and the abundance of macro critters in Anilao. The resort also has a very practical and spacious camera room, making it ideal for underwater photographers travelling with equipment. The inclusion of international power sockets was especially thoughtful and made a huge difference when charging and organising camera gear.
I would also like to thank my private dive guide, Marlon Austria, for his patience, professionalism and dedication throughout the dives. His sharp eye and calm approach made every dive enjoyable and productive from a photography perspective.
I would also like to thank the owner, Marco Lacson Santos, who personally spent time with me during my stay. That personal touch made the experience even more special.
The airport transfers were smooth and very comfortable, and overall everything was extremely well organised.
Highly recommended for divers, underwater photographers and anyone looking for a relaxing dive resort with wonderful hospitality. I very much look forward to returning again.

It took us 2 1/2 years to get here, but it was worth the effort! I started diving with Joedyn in Palau, when Sam’s Tours used to be good (side note: Fish ‘n Fins is a great alternative). Joe eventually had to relocate to the Philippines due to family reasons. He initially worked with the staff at Atlantis, but eventually took over the dive program at Aiyanar Resort. And boy, can you tell he runs it. Well. His wife, Irene, is in charge of the business operations side now, and the make a great team.
We did three dives a day, plus one self guided shore night dive. The critters we saw ranged from frogfish to mantis shrimp to turtles, and hordes of red toothed triggerfish. It was a macro divers paradise!
Randy runs the kitchen, and every meal was a treat! I have to consume protein shakes before I dive due to heartburn issues, and Randy bent over backwards to accommodate my dietary needs.
Joe arranged for our group of four to have an independent contracted divemaster who was amazed that a bunch of late fifties and early seventies divers would dive three times a day. We ran him ragged, but Ogie was both a good sport and a good scout.
So as much as I want to keep this resort to myself and under wraps, I cannot. Let your fingers dash to the keyboard and book your stay now.
