When I opened the door to our room at Hotel Pod Róża, I felt as if I were stepping into an old manor house. The room had soaring ceilings, large windows, and an elegant chandelier. Although the building dates to the Renaissance, its infrastructure has been thoughtfully updated to modern standards.
A staff member escorted us to our room, carried our luggage, gave us a tour of the amenities, and demonstrated the lighting controls. This personalized service was a lovely touch.
The king-size bed was exceptionally comfortable, even more so after we removed the heavy duvet and slept under the top sheet instead. Kraków was quite warm during our visit, making the duvet unnecessary.
The bathroom was equally impressive, with heated marble floors, a spacious walk-in shower, a separate soaking tub, plush towels, and terry cloth robes. I especially appreciated having a separate shower rather than the more common shower-over-tub arrangement.
Our room overlooked the hotel’s interior courtyard and the glass roof of the ground-floor restaurant, making it wonderfully quiet. The curtains were substantial but not true blackout curtains because they were mounted too far from the wall. As a result, the room remained fairly bright until sunset, which comes quite late during the Polish summer.
The HVAC unit extended nearly the full length of one bedroom wall, but the closed curtains covered it, creating a tradeoff between a cool room and a dark one. This could easily be solved by shortening the curtains slightly. I improvised by using clothespins that I always pack for travel, allowing cool air to circulate while keeping most of the light out.
Hotel Pod Róża enjoys an excellent location within Old Town. It’s close to the park that encircles the historic center and only about a five-minute walk from the Main Market Square.
Breakfast is not included, but that wasn’t a drawback for us. Several charming cafés are just around the corner, and I found one that I enjoyed so much I returned every morning.

An enlightened chef who knows how to combine tradition and innovation: ingredients of excellent quality cooked with skill and style. I drank a Primitivo of exceptional quality.

Title: Disappointing service response despite attempts to resolve during stay
We recently stayed at Hotel Pod Róża and unfortunately the experience did not match expectations for a five-star property.
There were several issues during the stay, including inconsistent air conditioning, limited breakfast selection relative to the price, and conflicting information from staff regarding in-room television streaming services.
One morning I also requested assistance at breakfast due to a diabetic low blood sugar situation, and the response was inconsistent across different days.
To be fair, we raised these matters directly with the hotel during our stay and communication did take place. A breakfast refund was partially addressed depending on booking channel, and Expedia later provided a goodwill credit.
While some effort was made to respond, the overall experience and consistency of service did not fully reflect the level expected for the property rating.
