Another stay at Museu to show Mertola to friends. Didn’t have breakfast but had toast and coffee from kiosk . The staff were friendly and helpful. The river view room was warm clean and peaceful. There is parking around the hotel . Toiletries are provided. Tea coffee and kettle in room but no milk. I have stayed before and will stay again . There does seem to be a lot of cats in Mertola

We stayed at this hotel mainly because of its fantastic location, and that truly is its biggest strength. It’s perfectly situated close to the historic center, restaurants, and attractions, and the view of the river is absolutely wonderful. You can even hear the relaxing sound of the river from your room, which creates a very peaceful atmosphere.
The room itself was quite standard and somewhat soulless in design, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable, which made for a good night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, the service and breakfast experience did not live up to the setting. The receptionist was efficient but showed no welcoming attitude or smile, and the information provided was very limited. It didn’t feel particularly hospitable.
We paid 10 euros per person for breakfast, which was far below expectations for that price. The selection was poor and felt mass-produced: overcooked greenish scrambled eggs, only one type of cheese, no fresh fruit, and generally very limited options. The quality and variety were in no way worth the price. It was a disappointing start to the day.
Overall, the location and river view are definite highlights, but improvements in service and breakfast quality would make a big difference to the overall experience.

Mértola exceeded our expectations for our 3-night trip. We really loved our room in the Hotel Museu, it overlooked the river and was perfect to simply relax and savour the views. Also, we discovered the kios between it and sister hotel, has a good range of food options plus competitively priced.
From the hotel, we took the boat trip on the Guardiana, again, a very chilled experience. Don't go looking for points of interests, just take in the slow pace and enjoy.
We also did a trip to the Pulo do Lobo waterfall (not blown away by this) and the award-winning Fluvial Beach (very blown away).
Lastly, Mértola, while small, has enough restaurants to choose from during a short stay. Just be aware, cats are often part of the dining experience. Not for me as both allergic and uncomfortable but managed to not let it colour what was a lovely few day.
If intending to walk around the town and definitely if heading to the waterfall, have decent walking shoes. In the town itself, there are lots of inclines so probably not for everyone.
