Although I have read many reviews before choosing the hostel, I didn’t got the impression that it may not be a good choice. The main problem is the NOISE that can be heard almost anywhere, and poor and unqualified staff, at the front desk, no contact with the place once you are in the room, as there is no phone in rooms, rooms are very tiny and small, bathroom -if it is private- is extra small, drainage has problems that need to be fixed, upon asking for the ride to the airport, the receptionist told me that you can’t stay here, go wait for your ride outside.
No feeling of security to leave luggage and go out for a walk.
It was good that my flight was early in the morning, it was a relief to get out after a terrible night.
Maybe it can suit a certain category of customers, which I am not one of them.

Room no. 2 has mouldy walls and horrible mouldy smell. Asked at checkin counter to change my room, they said they know about the smell (!?), but they can not give us another room as everything is occupied. Why have they rented a room in a first place?

Bring your ear plugs! You might surely need them on your stay at Residencial Mar Dos Açores. The super thin walls and the student's dorm next door did not let us get any sleep during the 5 nights we stayed at this place. The noise was so unbearable we had to change rooms from the first to the third floor. The staff was nice enough to put us on another room, which compare to the one in the first floor, was better but still did not meet our expectations. The rooms clearly need renovation, the bathroom was very tiny, the corridors often noisy, the windows too old and we had to remind the receptionist to clean our room on the 3rd day ... I would avoid this place on my trip to Lisboa.
On a more positive note, the staff was very friendly and the location was OK. It's very close to the Picoas metro station and has many small coffee places nearby where you can get authentic Portuguese pastries.
