we were sent here late at night by Jet2 after our flight was cancelled. When we arrived it was raining and only there was only room in reception for about 8 people, the others had to stand in the car park in the cold and rain. The lift was broken so we had to take our luggage down six flights of stone stairs, bearing in mind a lot of the people were in their 70s! one woman feel down the stairs, but was thankfully ok. The rooms and beds were cold and damp. The bedding and pillows were damp, old and stained. We went to bed in several layers of clothes but could not sleep due to the cold and damp. An elderly gentleman was taken by ambulance to the hospital in the morning as he had arthritis and being so cold and damp caused him to have a panic attack and be unable to breathe. In the morning the thought of even trying to wash our faces when we were so cold was horrendous. I am writing this review in the hope that anyone being sent to this hotel due to a cancelled flight can refuse and save themselves from the worst night ever. we wish we had refused and stayed in the airport. the hotel is basically derelict and uninhabitable, although the owners were as helpful as they could be. Jet2 are washing their hands of the responsibility and claiming ignorance saying they did their best for our safety - so be warned if you have a holiday with them!

We were dumped here by EasyJet at 4am last Tuesday morning after they cancelled our Monday evening flight.
It was clear that they were not prepared for us. The room smelled damp, the bathroom was dirty, they hadn’t even given the surfaces wipe down and to cap it all we had a small lizard residing with us. No Wi-fi.
The building itself is very strange. Apart from the warren of rooms there is a wicker weaving shop and a cafe. On the plus side the staff were friendly enough, with the small amount of contact we had.
We checked out as soon as we could arrange alternative accommodation.

I was traveling with 2 of my student friends to Madeira to grab a relaxing 14 days long trip and we stayed there for 3 nights. We immediately prolonged our stay by 1 night (we would by even more but we had to cover the whole island) and i'll explain why in just a second.
There is quite a lot of things i would like to point out.
Firstly, I would like to talk about the staff. I"m totally at a loss of words. I never have thought in my life i would come across people who are this kind. By the way they all speak English very well. When we came we were immediately escorted to our rooms. After that everything has changed. We have canceled almost all of our future plans because of their perfect sense of what the customers want. The receptionist even made a reservation for our next destination. Hats off.
The location is just great. The airport is really close and the supermarket is less than a mile away. It's also close to the mountain Pico do Arieiro which was definitely a highlight of our trip. The hotel even has its own viewpoint which is really nice if the skies are clear. Buses drive pretty often and there is also a taxi station right next to the hotel. Its also possible to rent a car. Interestingly there is a football playground just in front of the hotel where football was played for the first time in Portugal and the local futsal league is still played there. The atmosphere was lively and we really enjoyed watching the matches.
The rooms were very nice too. We rented a room with 3 beds. The place was really spacey and the beds were very comfortable. It was very tidy and the cleaning lady came every day of course. We had our own balcony with a pretty nice view and the bathroom was just what we needed - a sink, a toilet and a bath tub. The room also includes a television which we didn't even turn on because we were so busy.
Breakfast was good nothing too special. We just drank a quick coffee and made a couple of ham and cheese sandwiches to energize for our long walking trips.
There is a lot of levadas (Beautiful walks by the streams with breathtaking views) in the area and one of the staff even took us to the start of one by car. A really nice gesture.
The specialty of the hotel is definitely their store in which they sell souvenirs and their own traditional basketware which is really impressive. You can buy anything from an egg holder to a giant wooden deer.
So briefly, we had a really good time here and it was definitely the best starting point to a trip i can imagine. I think i have covered it all and yet again i have to point out the kindness of the staff.
Shoutout to Cristiano and Elda, really amazing people.
So i guess thats it, i'm out.
