Madeira Regency Cliff

We are a bit mixed on this hotel. It’s quiet and dead by 9pm which actually suits us but may not suit all. However, our room was dated with a faulty shower head which we reported on day 1 but was never sorted; cost of drinks at pool bar was very high; staff not very engaging with the exception of receptionists. The gym consists of very old machines in varying states of disrepair; steam room ineffectual with an odd smell. We had breakfasts each day which were ok but never took an evening meal as the price was high for what looked like a very ordinary buffet. All in all, no where near the claimed 4 sta.

My experience at this hotel has been quite disappointing, and honestly, I would not return nor would I recommend it. To begin with, the hotel in general feels very old and neglected, with facilities that are clearly outdated and in urgent need of renovation. The pool is quite small and does not match what one expects from the advertising. The gym is completely obsolete, with old machines and very little maintenance. The parking is terrible, poorly organized, and uncomfortable. Regarding the spa, it was a great disappointment: more than a spa, it seems like a cold water pond, with no atmosphere, no music, and no relaxing experience whatsoever. At the bar, the cocktails are quite bad, the drinks are overpriced, and the service in general leaves much to be desired. The attention from the staff was not good throughout the entire stay. The room was also not up to par: the shower screen was dirty, the bathroom faucet was rusty, and the television was old, constantly losing signal and had no channels in any language other than the local one, which is quite poor for a hotel that receives tourists. There was also a rather surreal situation: we were watching a soccer match, and when extra time arrived, they directly turned off the main switch and cut the broadcast, leaving everyone unable to finish watching it, without warning or providing any explanation. A detail that reflects very little consideration for the customers. Finally, the breakfast was quite bad, with little variety and quality far below expectations. In summary: old hotel, deficient facilities, poor value for money, and service that is clearly improvable. A disappointing experience.

Lovely quiet hotel. We were upgraded to a superior room which was spacious with a great view towards Funchal. Mini kettle and mini fridge and large pool towels and robes were a nice addition. 2 euro to change towels which we thought was reasonable. Room cleaned every day to a high standard. Breakfast buffet plentiful with a great choice of fresh fruits, cooked items, breads and pastries. Good coffee machine. Small patio and pool but we were always able to get loungers. All the staff are helpful and polite. Reception able to advise on buses, trips etc. Would definitely return here.
