we stayed in room 2017 - a spa room which was a very large and nice room, although having waited 6 hrs for it be prepared, after the long wait you would expect it to be fully functional but discovered that neither of the 2 washbasin plugs were watertight so they would not hold water, also the shower door would not shut so letting water out onto the bathroom floor, and one bedside reading light did not work, we informed reception on the first day but the maintenance was never carried out throughout the whole week.

This hotel only thrives on the uniqueness of being located in the botanical garden. Southern hospitality and friendliness in the hotel is virtually nonexistent. Hygiene in the restaurant, especially regarding the fish, is very questionable. I have never eaten the fish. However, it must be said that the selection of meat and fish is varied. Everything else changes only in nuances and remains always the same. What works well are all the things that must be paid for extra. The service works there. I found the situation extremely unbearable, where I had to either take a seat in the (extra charge) à la carte restaurant or eat outside because one half (5 tables) was already occupied and the others were reserved for an external travel group.... Furthermore, the soluble coffee sticks or the tea, coffee creamer, or sugar are not replenished. Thus, one is forced to go to the supermarket on vacation if one wants to drink their first coffee on the balcony in the morning after waking up. For me, that is vacation feeling, and I have not experienced it in the last several years—especially since the kettle is in the room. These items are not that expensive, especially since the hotel is not exactly cheap either. Overall, the staff is very professionally polite, although some have "if you only knew" eyes, but they are mostly focused on keeping their distance. The rooms are large, the balcony well-equipped. The room is overall cozy, but modern (as described) is something else, which I do not find bad now. The garden offers a world of its own on the island of Madeira, which is ideal for unwinding. The hotel is still very centrally located and is easily accessible to everything.

Quinta Splendida has an excellent location to explore Madeira. From the hotel, all walks, villages and sights on the island are easily accessible. The botanical gardens at the resort are magnificent and really give the stay a unique and relaxing atmosphere.
The rooms are neat, but a bit dated and could use an update here and there (no air conditioning, shower small and worn). On the other hand, the food more than makes up for this: both breakfast and dinner are really high quality, varied and of excellent quality.
In addition, the service deserves a big compliment: friendly, attentive and professional. All in all a very pleasant stay with especially strengths on location, gastronomy and service.
