Pousada Do Crato

We stayed here for one night , the old monastery , pool , room and surroundings were amazing, worth the trip itself. The service at the reception was good, the problem was the restaurant. Dinner was very high priced , main dish ( steak) and wine was good but overpriced. Service was terrible, grumpy waitress and they didnt have many of the options in the menu. My daughter has gluten intoleranse, we called 2 times in advance but still there was no gluten free options in the menu, the only thing she could eat was biff with chips, we asked for a salad in the side and the waitress made a problem out of it because that was not part of the menu. Main courses were ok but very bad service in general. We were also charged for a dish we didnt order. I had to complain to get it sorted out. Breakfast was fine, quality products, not a lot to choose but good cheeses, ham and a lot of pastery. Unfortunately and again they didnt had any gluten free options for my daughter, just a very dry gluten free white bread in a plastic quite impossible to eat, no cake , no pastery , no gluten free cereals, nothing. Very disappointing specially when we called 2 times in advance. I expected much more from a 5 star rated place at a relative high price. The main problem was the lack of care and interest in making this a good experience for my daughter, children with allergies and intoleranses should be given options in a 5 star rated hotel.

A relaxing and beautiful start to our holiday in Portugal. We stayed 4 nights in this beautiful building. Quiet, incredibly friendly staff and great food.
