POUSADA SAO GONCALO

We stayed at this pousada for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and they were of great assistance in helping us organise a boat trip in the Douro valley. It is very peacful and quiet here with wonderful views across the hills and valley (we're puzzled by another reviewers mention of motorway noise). There is a lovely pool and a nice sun terrace that we made use of. Our bedroom was quaint but clean with wonderful views. We ate in the pousada's restaurant each evening where we had some of the best meals of our month long holiday in Portugal and Spain, and very reasonably priced including some lovely wines.

We came for 2 nights in October. It’s off-season here, between summer tourism and winter tourism. Although there were not many guests, the hotel functioned very well. The location is perfect if you like to be out of town in quiet atmosphere, yet not far from nearby towns. The hotel is very clean , very well maintained and staff extremely nice. The room was very pleasant, spacious and has a very comfortable bed. From our room we had panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. We dined at the hotel restaurant that offers great local cooking at very reasonable price. It is really a must.

We stayed here 3 nights. The place was very difficult to find. The room was quiet small and not very modern. We had to drive every day a lot to see more interesting places. Breakfast was not a big choice, but very nice service by the waitress. Dinner was really good, with allways a nice bottle of good wine.
