Solar dos Canavarros Douro

A good hotel when in the region for any reason. Our room was spacey, had airconditioning, a bathtub and the other usual things. But it was tastelessly furbished and outdated. No wifi in the room. But it was all working to perfection. So, no complaints from me. Breakfast was plentiful.

This is a 3 star rated hotel located not in a big city, so don't put your expectations too high. I don´t regret for the couple nights I spent there, but I can treasure the experience as amazing! I beleive the hotel need to be much better maintained, there´s some "retouchs" required. If that happen, everything can be different. And I´m talking about simple things, as paint jobs, doors and windows. The restaurante is nice, but not amaizing, you can have a decent meal. The breakfast to me was the best part, big variety available including hot food. The garden and swimming pool are well maintained, also one positive side of this hotel. The staff is nice and smiling, but not are a perfect exeple of competence. Are slow, specially in restaurant. The decoration in the rooms, should be revised, the patterns used such as curtains, pillows and bed are old fashioned are needing to be replace. Talking about location, the village is very small so there´s nothing to do, if you want to chill out, ok it´s a good option, if not you need to drive wherever you want to go. I can´t rate my experience as negative, but not as great!

The hotel is situated in the small village of Sabrosa and is well situated for exploring the Douro river valley, around Penhau and Regua. The rooms are spacious – ours had a balcony overlooking the pool area. The room and bathroom are getting “tired” and need renovation and updating. The breakfast was an average continental.
