Monterai Resort

Despite the kind receptionist, the beautiful environment, the large terrace and the rooms featuring newer furniture, we feel the Monterai Resort is significantly overpriced for what it actually delivers. Our stay got off to a rough start when we had to be moved from our first room due to a strong sewage smell that filled the entire space. We thank management who quickly moved us to a second room. The second one was fine, identical to the other but fell well short of what one would expect from a unit marketed as an "apartment for four persons." We were provided a kettle, two glasses and two cups — and absolutely nothing else. No tea, no coffee, no sugar. Electrical outlets were nearly impossible to find throughout the space. The internet was somewhat unstable. The included breakfast bar was as joyless as the staff tasked with maintaining it. Replenishment happened at a glacial pace, with some lineups forming just to wait for eggs, a clean glass, or a cup. With those lines forming, it felt at times like the good old days of the communism-era were back to Romania. The shower situation was its own ordeal. On the first morning, water temperature swung wildly between burning hot and ice cold. On the second morning, the issue resolved itself in the worst possible way: there was no hot water at all. The shower stall was barely big enough to turn around in. Remarkably, for a hotel charging US$225 a night, there was no toilet paper holder — just a loose roll with nowhere logical or hygienic to put it. Counter space for toiletries was equally lacking. On a positive note, the beds and pillows were comfortable and the linens of good quality. The place was also very clean, which is not negligible — and genuinely appreciated. It is worth noting that friends at a newer, nicer hotel nearby paid nearly half what we did. None of these issues would be hard to fix, which makes it all the more frustrating. We hope the owners take a closer look for their guests' sake as much as their own.

Accommodation is truly 5-star, and I’m not exaggerating at all when I say that. Everything is extremely clean and comfortable, and the food at the restaurant is delicious, better than all the overrated places in Brașov, from the traditional menu to the gourmet options. I haven’t had a perfectly cooked beef tenderloin like the one at Monterai even in well-known restaurants. It is by far the most beautiful place we’ve stayed in Poiana. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. We will definitely come back! ❤️
