There are hotels 5*, there are 4*, 3*, 2 and 1*. Next are the hostels and b&b-s. Hotel "Golden Valley" does not fit into these categories. Because it is beyond Good and Evil. Earlier I thought that there were no hotels worse than "Parus" in Yaroslavl. How wrong I was! My colleagues and I arrived to Akademgorodok for a couple of days in December 2017. Like most of its population we came for a business in two institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We arrived in the morning after the night flight. Meetings were scheduled at 14, and I lay down to sleep. But no! It turned out that the walls in the hotel are made of cardboards. So I heard what the maids very loudly behind the wall discussed their intimate affairs, children, husbands and so on. When one of them decided to rustle by the key in my door, I could not restrain myself and told her everything what I think about her and this place. Let me just list the cons of the hotel: Forgotten by someone and left by the maid someone's socks on the battery; The lack of a safe in the presence of holes in the door and an old overhead lock with a primitive key; Sink at the level of the knee; A faucet spout is at the level of the edge of the sink so that it is impossible to wash your hands; Burnt and blackened wall-mounted heater on the wall; The absence of slippers; The lack of mini bar; Very dirty and old sedentary bath from the USSR; General shabby and mossy; The most modest choice for breakfast in the restaurant. See my photos by yourself. When we left, I asked on the reception to whom this institution belongs. It turned out that no one - the Academy began to transmit it to FANO, but did not pass it. My belief is that hotel can not be fixed. It just needs to be destroyed, demolished, and the land should be sold to a private investor with the condition of building a 3* hotel here. Just avoid the "Golden Valley". This is the shame of campus of University and Academy.

The hotel is basic but conveniently located near university. The rooms we good size, clean and very quiet. Staff didn't seem to speak any English but they were always around. We will definitely stay there again.

If you have (academic, or other) business in Akademgorodok, this is practically your only choice. Walking distance to the House of Scientists, where conferences are held. English/speaking reception desk staff (during working hours, not always during night shifts) . Rooms are clean, bed is ok, shower operates, even on floor 8, but nothing more. Rooms may be overheated in times. Do not expect air conditioning for room rates well below 40$. Innternet in room works fine.
