Simple but very good hotel on a convenient location. Great bed, fridge with drinks, big desk, airco, big bathroom. Breakfast is made on order and served to your room. Staff is very friendly and willing to help. Great value for price. Reception works 24/7.

I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars for this hotel but came out at 4 because of the really lovely reception staff who couldn't have been more helpful.
The first impression of this hotel is almost scary because it is just one of many businesses and domestic accommodations within a single, scruffy, USSR-era building. The Gallery Hotel occupies just part of one floor and the common parts of the building are not reflective of the quality of the hotel. The tiny lift is reached via a few stairs and is one of the fastest that I have used. The door slams shut almost before you are inside and the lift sets off rapidly almost before the door is fully shut. No waiting around! The Gallery Hotel is on the 7th floor according to a sign but you have to take the lift to the 8th floor and then walk down a short flight of steps to the hotel's front door. The door is locked and only opened after you press the bell. Entering is a slightly Tardis-like experience from the scruffy stairway into a fairly standard if small hotel reception area. I arrived late from a somewhat delayed train and the receptionist on duty spoke no English - but she tried really hard and used a Google translate computer program when we got into difficulty.
My room was a standard and fairly high quality hotel room. It was in very good repair without a single obvious scuff mark anywhere. Clean carpet, queen size bed, desk with a fridge under it to one side and 2 closets. The fridge had a small selection of drinks. The individual A/C unit worked well. The password protected wifi seemed to be room specific and was fast and stable. The bathroom was modern, clean and bigger than others that I have had in similar hotels.
Although the building is on a main street I heard no street noise with the windows closed and no noise from the hallway either over the 3 nights that I stayed.
There is no restaurant but an in-room breakfast is provided with choices that are well prepared and filling.
The hotel is very central, within a few minutes walk of the river and easy walking distance of all the downtown attractions such as the museums and the old train station. A tip to travelers - the Perm Tourist Information is very willing and helpful with English speaking staff and only about 10 minutes walk from the hotel on a street with good coffee from a place opposite and a couple of quirky upstairs cafes (Sister's Bar and Staff Only) near by.
All the hotel reception staff went out of their way to be helpful, even calling a taxi for me using a personal telephone app with the night receptionist hanging around some extra time to walk me to the cab.
If you can disregard the building the Gallery Hotel is a good place to stay in Perm.

Whist staying here I was very impressed with the service i received it was clear I couldn't speak a word of russian and needed extra help which i got from everything from walking direction to times of busses even when i arrived at the airport the airport staff phoned the hotel for directions an the hotel offered to call a taxi for me and put the taxi fare on their account the second visit the manager acually came to the airport to meet me and take me to the hotel which was nice but the only problems with the hotel is the look from the outside but this was not the fault of the hotel as the hotel only occupies one floor of the tower block but like the saying goes DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER
