We recently spent two nights at City Lodge Hotel Bloemfontein, and as someone who rarely stays in hotels, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Fortunately, the experience was a pleasant surprise.
The standout feature was definitely the food. I ordered the mild creamy chicken curry with basmati rice, sambals, poppadum, and buttered paratha, and it did not disappoint. The flavours were excellent, with just the right balance of creaminess and spice. We also ordered chicken mayo toasted sandwiches, which were equally delicious. In fact, the fries and side salad that accompanied them may have been the highlight of that meal.
The breakfast buffet was also impressive, offering a wide variety of options. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout breakfast, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Check-in was quick, efficient, and professional. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly and welcoming, including the security guards at the entrance. The room itself was neat and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and excellent shower pressure—something that always makes a stay more enjoyable.
My only real criticism would be the coffee, which wasn't great, especially if you're a bit of a coffee snob like me. The vending machine prices were also ridiculously expensive.
Overall, I had a very enjoyable stay. Great service, comfortable accommodation, and outstanding food made for a surprisingly memorable experience. I would happily stay here again.
