Protea Hotel Or Tambo Airport

A great hotel, very handy for the airport. Rooms clean and comfortable, restaurant good and helpful staff. We were able to arrange a late checkout due to an evening flight at a small extra charge. Excellent shuttle service to and from the airport. Would definitely stay here again if in need of an airport hotel.

The hotel is ranked as a 4 star hotel, which might fit to the amenities of the hotel and the renewed lobby but not so much to the rooms that are a bit rundown. In the restaurant I had a burger that was obviouly made of white meat (pork or chicken), I complained but the staff claimed it was beef. So I felt fooled. The next day at breakfast my friend was already at the table when I arrived. First, the staff (Anna) at the breakfast entrance wouldn’t take notice of me but was chatting, so I passed by because I knew that my friend had already announced us for breakfast. Then I was called after by the staff woman (Anna) who asked for my roomnumber and I told her and added that my friend is already in. The staff looked at me and asked „So what, is she paying for you?“. I answered „of course not“ but she must have already ticked our room for breakfast. My friend then asked for her name and after that she came to our table and asked in an intimidating way if we were good. When my friend left, the woman from the staff came back to me and asked again if I was good in a quite aggressive way. Then she started explaining that she had done nothing wrong and that she apologises. This whole behaviour was totally rude, unprofessional and left a bad first impression on South Africa‘s people. In a way I felt threatened by her during breakfast after she knew that I would complain about her rude question if my friend was paying for me.

Stayed here overnight on our way to Zambia. Free shuttle easy to use and a real bonus. Clean and comfortable and the food at the bar and restaurant was wonderful. A great base close to the airport.
