Protea Hotel OR Tambo Airport

Protea consistently made our stay comfortable and timely. A great place to hub out of if you are on a multi-country southern Africa tour. Reasonable pricing, outstanding service, good food, everyone is super-friendly. The shuttle to JNB dispatches every 30 min 24/7, a comfort if you arrive late at JNB. Would highly recommend and will stay here again when back in Joburg.

My mum and I stayed here for two nights - once at the start of our trip and again at the end. Service at the front desk was welcoming and efficient. The general manager was really friendly and chatty which was nice. The room was clean and comfortable and we felt perfectly safe throughout our stay. The shuttle which is located at the bus terminal is fairly easy to find and comes every 30 mins. Be careful for someone showing you to the stand where the shuttle comes - we thought the man worked there but was a scam so we had to give him some money. When you get to the bus terminal hall, there’s a sign with Protea hotel on one of the openings. The breakfast overall was very good. I wasn’t so keen on the cooked breakfast items, a bit different to what we get in the UK but the rest to choose from we enjoyed. Would absolutely recommend for an airport stay in Johannesburg.

Protea Hotel JNB Airport was built in 2009, renovated in 2024, and offers 213 rooms over 5 floors, fitness centre, outdoor pool, meeting rooms, and 24-hour airport shuttle. Even-numbered rooms face away from the runways into the quiet residential area.. Furnishings and decoration provide a business atmosphere. Service is friendly. We found room 531 suffering from noise from the airfield and moved to room 512, which was larger and more quiet. Our room had desk & chair, tea facility & fridge, and a good kingsize bed. Window can open in safety mode. We had an open bathroom with washbasin, bath & shower, and a separate toilet. All was clean. There is a good buffet breakfast: eggs made to order, cold cuts & cheeses, breads & toast, cereals & fruits, milk & yoghurts, juices & preserves, rolls & croissants, tea & coffee. Protea JNB is a comfortable hotel and we had a good stay. Recommended.
