The Airport Grand

This was a perfectly fine stay for one night near JNB. Not the closest, but easy to get to with the free shuttle. HOWEVER, the floors are funny: I had to take an elevator to my room and then still go up another 5 steps or so to reach my floor. The floor below mine was like that as well. Not all rooms required this, but a good portion did. Yes, airplanes do fly directly overhead, but I never heard them in my room. Staff was really friendly. In particular, Chad and Teekay were really friendly. I ordered food at the restaurant and took it up to my room. Affordable by US standards and didn't take long at all. Pretty tasty, too. Only problem is that the AC unit in my room made noises throughout the night even though it wasn't on. Otherwise, a clean, affordable stay.

Stayed here in total for 11 weeks the past 4 years; both summer and winter. PRO Great shuttle; Airport - Hotel - Airport. Even came to pick me up when my late evening plane to Tambo arrived too late for the bus schedule. You will find a film on YouTube how to get to/from the bus station (easy & short). Security at the gate. Thorough check of my uber drivers. «Safe» area outside the perimeter. Great staff. Friendly, caring, service, well-staffed. Extra plus for the dinner staff in the the restaurant. Guest facilities. Good space for common areas. Ok Gym/Fitness. Pool with sunbeds. Enjoyed my breakfast outside everything day in the summer & winter (no wind due to the surrounding buildings). Food. Great breakfast and dinner. Prefered dinner from the menu, not the buffet. Room. Good size, bed, bathroom (both shower and bathtub). Various soaps, a lot of towels. The safe is big enough and very easy to use. Good space for cloths. Fridge. Double windows to reduce noice. Clean. Small shopping centre with huge Spar 650 meter down the road. CON Noice from low incomming planes. It is an airport hotell… Both annoying and fascinating when beeing at the pool. Most noice from the biggest (KLM). Inside and closed windows = Acceptable noice. The doors in the guest rooms could be better sound insulated. Combination of self-closing doors and thin walled doors makes some noice from corridor and neighbours. Ear plugs when sleeping = Slept well day & night.

Facilities are adequite, staff is efficient, helpful and friendly. The food is great value for money and standards are not comprimised. Will definately recommend.
