Hotel White House

We booked this hotel as we had a flight to catch the next morning at 8am. It is only a 10min drive to the Jeju Intl Airport. When we checked in, the receptionist was able to talk in English and was polite. He said that the water heater wasnt working hence the boss would drive us to a Jimjjilbang for our shower. As it was our first time in Korea, we have never experienced a Jimjjilbang. It was really an eye opener for us and we went in with an open mind. The room itself was big and the view was great. The starbucks at the first level is an added bonus.

My family and I stayed one night in a Middle Suite B unit on the 3rd level. Our room (301) is directly above the ‘Hotel White House’ sign at the hotel front. Hotel location: To reach this hotel, key in GPS code 7123200. Basically, we chose this hotel because (1) It’s about 10 minutes’ drive to the Jeju Airport (which we were departing at 10am next morning), (2) It’s above the Starbucks so our breakfast and snacks are taken care off (3) There’re plenty of restaurants and eateries along the stretch of the Seohaean-ro road to the right of where this hotel is located. (4) It’s about 3.5km from Yongduam Rock attraction (turn right from hotel) (5) There’s a unique beach with black rocks in front of the hotel (6) Car parking is free As for car park, don’t take the drive-in entrance; instead take the road to the back of the hotel (for customers only). After that, take the walkway for luggage and proceed to the lift lobby and take the lift to the second level where the check-in counter is. Yes, the reception is on the 2nd level because Starbucks is on the 1st level. Hotel Staff: The hotel receptionist was friendly; he spoke little English but was fluent in Mandarin (Chinese). Hotel Room: This is the first hotel that I stayed in that has a very high ceiling, which gives the room its vertical largeness of space. Horizontal wise, the bedroom is large too. And the impression is manifested by the white colour of the walls and the ceiling. It has 2 queen beds, a big wooden table, a sofa, 2 wooden antique chairs, dressing table with mirror and hair-dryer, a small refrigerator, a kettle and 4 pairs of slippers. There 2 sets of large windows and the right set of windows can be opened but without the mosquito net/covering. It doesn’t matter because the view is breathtaking of the black volcanic rocks laden beach and the Cheju Haehyop sea in patches of beautiful turquoise and deep blue as well as the Dodu-dong “town”. Furthermore, when the fabulous Jeju sunset greeted us, we were so thankful that we chose the right room. Access to the free internet was fine. The air-con was powerful and silent. The floor is tiled and has no carpet, so it’s easily cleaned and maintained. There’s also a hotel escape set in the form of a descending life line’ that you could hook to outside the window for escape during a fire. However, there’s no safe, no iron and to our dismay there’s no wardrobe cupboard but just 2 wall mounted structures which accommodates 4 clothe hangers. The greyish-toned bathroom is huge, and we liked the additional pair of slippers and the bath-tub in addition to the separate shower area. Not only was noise insulation was good between rooms, it was also importantly good in that we didn’t hear the airplanes that were taking off from the nearby Jeju airport. As a result, we had a comfortable rest before our flight out of the Jeju until about 7 am where we were woken up by the morning traffic since our unit faced the 2-lane road. Hotel premises: Here’s what I discover – there’s a huge toy bear seated on a chair behind the elevator between the 2nd and 3rd level that you could take a photo with. I would recommend this wonderful 3-star hotel with the necessary amenities and its location very close to the airport.

We checked into this quaint hotel last night and was given Room 12. The room was literally right next to the checkin desk, which we thought was odd, but since it was around 9pm and we assumed there would be no other rooms available, we took it. The hotel had boasted a waterfront view when I had booked it - but all we got was this lovely blue construction wall (as shown in pictures). Right under our window was also a Starbucks drive thru, which was unsettling since the people waiting for their coffee could actually look up into our room. While resting for the evening, I had noticed that there was a smell of smoke in the room and told the front desk about it (it was a non-smoking room / hotel). He told me to open a window and gave me a can Febreeze, in hopes to placate me. But even after spraying and opening windows, the smell lingered; we soon realized that the smoke smell was coming from the bathroom and shut the door. Of course the moment we had to actually use the bathroom, it was pretty disgusting inside. I called the front desk man again so that he could see (smell?) for himself (literally opened the front door and talked to him from the door). He comes over, shrugs, and tells me that the smell isn't so bad but that he would put on the fan for us. :/ I asked if they had another room we could move to, but as I had correctly assumed earlier, they were full up. Fast forward to 7am when we were woken up to the lovely sound of jackhammers. The staff didn't notify us about the construction site or tell/warn us that they would be starting work early. Sigh. Overall, the facilities were clean and the location was great, but the apathetic attitude of the staff was really disappointing. Side note, I am fluent in Korean so it wasn't that we couldn't communicate. The staff just seriously didn't seem to care at all. Perhaps we just got unlucky with our room and situation but if anyone else gets Room 12, I would suggest to change immediately to a room on the other side of the building right away.
