Barcelo Cabo de Gata

We’ve just come back from our 10 day stay and it was a mini paradise. The most relaxed holiday we’ve had and exactly what we wanted. The staff were amazing! Reception, bar, waiting staff and the Barcy entertainment team always had a smile and couldn’t have been more helpful when needed. Also the staff behind the scenes, cleaners, chefs and kitchen staff, the hotel was very clean and the food was excellent, huge variety at breakfast, lunch and dinner and everyday was different. We normally do all inc with multiple restaurants so was worried we’d get bored, but we’ve never eaten so good! The pools are amazing! We’re not beach people but did go down one day for a dip in the sea. There’s no loungers or parasols etc and quite pebbly so if it’s a beach holiday you’re after, probably not the most suitable place. Only slight downer was no Lilo’s allowed in the pool. Other comments have mentioned it’s a little isolated but wasn’t a problem for us. Really nice 15 min walk down the paved seafront path there’s a selection of restaurants, supermarket and shops which we did one evening but we we’re more than happy at the hotel the rest of the time. Between the beach and the hotel there’s also a winding boardwalk type path with pergolas and seating which were perfect for a sunrise/sunset stroll. Dinner starts at 8pm and the evening entertainment was usually at 10pm, fine for us but could see it being a little late for some. If you’re coming from the UK I would say 95% of the other guests were Spanish which we knew before booking and saw this as a positive, we’ve had enough of the typical brits abroad but if you’re looking to make holiday friends, download Duolingo and start learning! Very nice place, we went with no high expectations, and we had a very good surprise, the staff is friendly, the food is good, the room is big and clean. Do not forget your sea shoes if you want to enjoy the sea side.

Cleanliness, service, good food, spacious and well-lit rooms, both artificial and natural light, something to keep in mind for future vacations.
