San Jose

I have spent several relaxing short holidays in San José and this hostel is my absolute favorite. From upstairs rooms you have a magneficant view over the bay, and downstairs rooms have each a cosy little patio. Rooms are basic but with all you can wish for. Bathrooms are very nice with bath tubs. Only minus is the weak WiFi which makes it impossible to login with a laptop. Beach, amenities and little shops are 5-10min walk away.

Our room was simple, clean and fresh, and kept that way. We were able to see and hear the sea from our room, with a lovely view over San Jose and the surrounding mountains. Sunsets and stars from the balcony! It is a short downhill walk to the beach, a bit of a stretch up after a long day. At the bottom of the hill there is an excellent supermarket to the right and two lovely and friendly cafes on the left. San Jose has many eateries, and we found the sea food excellent. Our one complaint about the room was the lack of a kettle and use of a fridge. To be able to wake up to a coffee or tea, and to have the means to chill cold drinks would have been perfect.

The room was very spacious and had a small kitchen and front terrace. Everything was clean and fresh. The location was good, a little on the side from the beach and boardwalk. Observe though that you need to check in and out at their sister hotel Don Ignacio as this hostal does not have a reception. At Don Ignacio you could also have breakfast and use their pool at an additional cost. If I were to come to San Jose again I would easily stay at this nice hostal again.
