Principe de Asturias

The Príncipe de Asturias hotel has rooms with an excellent view (it charges 10 euros extra for the view) but it claims to be 4 stars and in reality, it is no more than three stars. The room is fine, but the bathroom is quite poor; it is hard to get hot water to come out. The breakfast is poor; there is the traditional fare, but from a 4-star hotel, one expects it to be an excellent breakfast. On the other hand, it does not have amenities like a pool; they say they don't have one because they are facing the sea, but that is not a good excuse. Therefore, if they were rated as 3 stars, one would say it is fine, but not 4 stars at the price of a 4-star hotel. The location is indeed very good.

We decided to spend the weekend in Gijon to escape the summer heat in Madrid. We were looking for a beachfront hotel. Príncipe de Asturias advertised itself as a high quality hotel with fantastic beachfront views Our experience was anything but fantastic. Its location at the far side of the boardwalk was seedy at best. The hotel was old and very dated. The hallways dark with smells of cigarettes in this smoke free hotel The room itself was small with a very old bathroom. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. There was one window that opened partially The real nightmare began when we came back after an evening walk for our first night in the room. It was warm and there was a lot of noise in the street mostly from a dance bar next door We closed the window only to find that the air conditioner didn't work. It became unbearably warm in the room so we were forced to open the window but the dance music was so loud even on the 6th floor that we were forced to use our bulky headphones to block the noise and try to sleep. Needless to say we did t sleep and the music went on untill 5 am After a sleepless night we confronted the receptionist who admitted that the air conditioner had be broken for weeks. They never disclosed this to us She offered us use of a fan We decided to check out immediately and find another hotel Príncipe De Asturias is a disaster of a hotel. Don't waste your money

Good hotel, right room, no heating, bathroom tiles a little old but clean. Good location
