Raval Rooms

RAVAL ROOMS Barcelona has a great location, with major attractions and metro access nearby. However, there are significant downsides. The area feels unsafe, especially at night, with suspicious activity, theft, and crime being common. The streets are also dirty and smelly. On the positive side, there are many cafés, restaurants, and markets nearby. The hostel has a terrace for smokers, and the private bathroom and sheets were clean and renewed regularly. However, the kitchen was not fully equipped, and the beverage machines were often empty, with one not working due to a lack of money change. Overall, while the location is convenient, safety and cleanliness in the area are major concerns, and some amenities need improvement.

The place is rough in a rough area of the city. It did not feel safe or clean. It smelled bad. The owner insists on cash payment, even though when you book with HostelWorld it says credit cards. When we decided we couldn't stay there as it just felt unsafe, he swore at us, and our credit card was charged the full amount for 6 days. There were a few poor reviews on HostelWorld and we should have listened to them.

Upon arriving I had to carry my suitcase up a set of stairs to get to the elevator (not annoyed, just letting you know there are some stairs to climb). Check in was okay but the room was disgusting. The floors were dirty and the corners of the room had mould. Our room's hairdryer was ripped out and they would not give us a new one. Half of the lights were out or made noises when they were gone. Beds we cots that were lopsided. After the first day I spilt my water bottle on my bed which resulted in me asking for new sheets (happy to change the bed on my own). He refused and said the bed wasn't due for a change yet so I couldn't get new sheets. He also threatened an extra charge. So I did not have any sheets on my bed for the rest of the day until I found another staff who was happy to change the bed for me and had no issue. Upon checkout they charged me 24 euros for I guess city taxes, which I was unaware of. When I simply asked what the charge was they yelled at me and said I knew about this at check in and needed to pay it in cash only. I did not have any cash, only card, which resulted in them further yelling at me but eventually agreeing to letting me pay cash. I also did not feel safe in the area. Being a girl with my friend walking home after dark we got comments and looks which made me uneasy. Would not recommend for female travellers. Safe to say, avoid this place at all costs... no redeeming factors!
