Residencia Blas de Otero

I came to stay for one night at this residence and I must say that I was delighted, not only with the facilities, which were pleasantly clean and functional, but also with the kindness and friendliness of the person at the front desk

This was an absolute horror of a place. The area is dismal. There are huge numbers of young men hanging around and at night the street is lined with sex workers. This was not a cheap deal at all. On top of the room fee (about £80) it was €20 to park the bike (you will need secure parking - it’s opposite a scrap yard and we had visions of the bike being weighed in). The staff were very nice but the actual place was hellish. The lift was lined with cardboard for some reason, the room was clean and very basic. The view was interesting - old shoes airing on window sills. The smell of onions pervaded the room. There was no air con but there was a fan. The location was handy for the centre but not nice at all. Breakfast was a five minute walk away in a run down cafe. It was an interesting stay but I can’t recommend it.

Extremely expensive and a horrible experience. Tiny room, horribly hot, and on top of that, if you open the window, the street faces a super noisy junkyard. They give you a tiny fan that is laughable. The management by the staff was unpleasant. Impossible to cook in the room because of how small it is and how poorly everything is set up. In the end, the neighborhood, although unsafe, ended up mattering less to us because of how bad the experience at the residence has been. On top of that, the photos they post are extremely misleading.
