Hostal La Calzada

Comfortable and cozy room with bathroom, everything very clean, comfortable bed, air conditioning and very nice attention that have given us options to store luggage as we had an excursion. No luxuries but with everything you need to visit Tarifa. Very centrally located next to San Mateo Church

--> I start with the good: The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of Tarifa. Keep in mind that everything is pedestrian, so the car is going to have it some distance away (hopefully about 5-8 min walk). The hostel itself is correct and clean, considering the price we pay (more than 80€ per night would never pay). --> And now, the LOUSY: Undoubtedly the little shame and no education of the receptionist, an older man who does the night shift. We were leaving the hotel my friends and I for dinner for Tarifa, when this gentleman stands in the middle of the door to scold us as if he were our father, in a most unpleasant tone, screaming and threatening us while pointing out that he would not tolerate any noise or improper attitude in his hostel. To finish, we learn that to re-enter the hostel you have to hit a doorbell and this unpleasant gentleman must open the door for us. I find it incredible - for worse - that we have to rely on a gentleman to open the door for us, not having the freedom to enter and leave whenever we want without having to have the hard time that a person should judge us simply by his gaze. Another situation to comment, and which I have read later that is NOT legal, is that they keep your ID while you take the luggage to your room. DON’T give him your ID, tell him your details and you’re done, nowadays it’s not mandatory and they can’t ask you. Watch this. In short, they are scoundrels. If you want absolute silence, soundproof the rooms or set up a monastery, you are in the heart of Tarifa, assume it and let your customers enjoy, which is what you pay for.

The Hotel is a great location , clean .. but .. what a noise !!! For two nights sleep was interrupted by the noises coming from the street , by the noises coming from the other rooms and especially by the fact that the structure does not give the keys to the main door to the guests .. so late and “cheerful” guests attach themselves to the intercom, knock and phone (yes you can clearly hear the reception phone ringing ) even late at night .. then to conclude the bricklayers (but those work .. nothing to say).. you will say: “close the window and turn on air conditioning ..” well that’s noisier !!!! Recommended for night owls and party girls
