Albergue Solar de Hidalgos

Sitio sucio, incómodo y completamente descuidado. El recepcionista está de la cabeza. Nos hospedamos en el albergue y fue una noche para olvidar. Necesita una renovación urgente. No lo recomiendo en absoluto. Needs a good clean, especially the bathroom and toilet areas. Would be a good idea to put some WD40 on the bathroom door too in the dorm room so as to not disturb people sleeping. Didn't feel particularly comfortable. Expensive for what it was.

I stayed in a triple room which gave me bed bug bites, total 11 bites on my face and neck before I realised and got out of the place. As bed bugs come out after lights off, I found more than 15 bugs, and nymphs. Many of the bugs contained stale blood, indicating they have been around for lengthy period of time. The fact that the bugs crawled around edge of wall electrical socket, making it seem very likely the bugs living inside walls and crevices and are not limited to one room, rather an endemic issue to the entire hotel. Many parts of the hotel get no sunlight at all, something which is common in many bed bug infestations. Also note the interior room walls are not as sturdy as the outside and sound easily transmits to next room. Something couples should consider in their booking. While this place has what some think as ‘rustic charm’, with various old objects, it does not mask the fact of its poor hygiene standards (room smell of body odour). So prospective guests are advised to consider carefully before making choice, as most hotels in the old town Santillana del Mar is of similar vintage and offer at least as much charm, and due to the tiny size of the old own no hotel is far from anything.

While it's location is excellent I cannot say the same about the owner. He acted inappropriately towards me and made me feel uncomfortable as a lone female traveller and I witnessed inappropriate behaviour to other woman also. It's a fine place to stay but don't put up with his behaviour if you don't like it.
