We are a group of 4 people spending 3 nights to go watch lynx in Peñalajo. I took care of the reservation online and a price was established for all 3 rooms with full board. When we arrived, a certain “Francesca” (who did not introduce herself but who was ultimately the manager) spoke very loudly (in Spanish only) and did not understand the price given by email by another employee: I had to justify myself at length and explain to him several times what full board is! When I tell her that I will pay by credit card, she complains and would have preferred cash (of course!). Most guests come here for the same reasons and you have to leave early. So every morning, a breakfast bag with a room number is provided and stored the day before in a fridge in a dedicated room. We have to pick it up at 6:30 a.m. the next morning (because at 6:30 a.m., in this hotel, no one is up and we have to fend for ourselves!). The first morning, 2 bags of breakfast were missing. The manager concluded that a customer had helped himself and too bad for us. The day before the 2nd morning, I asked that they replace the sweet cake with a mini chorizo sandwich: they added a microscopic sandwich with a slice of chorizo without butter and charged it without notifying me before €4 each, which was the price whole breakfast! (It’s really excessive given the note we’re going to leave them) The last morning, when we exceptionally had the keys to the premises and no other customer was able to enter, a breakfast bag was still missing! No reimbursement for these missing breakfasts took place. On the other hand, additional drinks were billed at fanciful prices which changed every day, certain coffees were added even though they were included…etc… Finally, with a note of several hundred euros, no invoice was given to me. The rest ? > Very basic meals, ordered the day before on a sheet and served the next day with some omissions and inversions but for the price let's not be choosy. > The service at the restaurant was long and disorganized as possible, fortunately with a smile. > The rooms are dated, bathtub to step over for the shower, without anti-slip which is very dangerous. The night light in each room has a flashing green bulb, which turns it into a disco at night for the same price! The air conditioning works well. The shower gel must be expensive because a 25g sachet per day and per night is in the bathroom, and obviously, despite this restriction, there was a shortage of it! The rooms are very poorly lit and the two lamps above the bed did not work. Wifi only works for rooms near reception, others don't. We spent the last night at the ÁNGEL hotel, near the highway, with a restaurant serving an equally good menu at the same price, and ultra modern and comfortable rooms. I do not recommend the CASA PALACIO hotel because it is managed in a disastrous and unprofessional manner and we will not return there.

Santa Cruz De Mudela is a small town just by the highway where there is not particularly much to do. It is, however, a perfect base if you want to explore the surrounding nature of central Spain. Casa Palacio is an excellent hotel with everything you need. Rooms are spacious and equipped with all the necessities. There is a restaurant accessible from the hotel and breakfast is also perfectly satisfactory. Don't expect the grand luxury of the Spanish beach cities or Madrid, but if you want to explore the inland with the correct mindset, I will definitely recommend this hotel!

This was a return visit to the Casa Palacio, Santa Cruz de Mudela since before Covid travel restrictions. Obviously the building is very old which is important in its attraction. However it did look tired with some problems with doors. On arrival at about 2pm the hotel was locked and not manned. We had to phone and was given the front door code. Our room was unlocked with key inside. Later in the day the hotel was manned for a short while but not evening or overnight. The owner arrived about 0900 the next day as we were leaving. The main problem was we were not aware they no longer did breakfast or evening meal. Mudela is a ‘one horse town’ with apparently no restaurants.( our evening meal was a snack in a cafe) so disappointed
