Marquis Portago is excellently located - within 5 minutes walk to the main shopping street of Granada. It is located on Calle San Matias, which is quite a main thoroughfare despite its narrowness. Our apartment was located on the second floor, with 2 small balconies where you can watch the going ons down below. The streets around this area are very charming with lots of interesting old buildings. As a result of the above, the apartment is quite noisy at night. If you have a car with you, the cark park is about 10 minutes walk from the apartment. The car park itself is quite an experience, with really narrow corners and spaces - a problem if you have a big car. Note also the reception is not in the same building as the apartment. There is only one air conditioning unit in the apartment which is in the main living area. When we were there, the outside temperature soared to above 40 degrees celsius, so the air conditioning was nowhere near sufficient to cool the rooms down. Noting the age of the building, the pipes in the bathroom are a bit smelly as well. There is a good sized kitchen with all the utensils you need including a microwave oven. There is no dishwasher, and our toaster did not work.

Where to begin... Booked and paid for what I believed was a one bedroom apartment, instead we got a ridiculously small studio. Obviously I told them, but they did not really care to honor the reservation, nor refund the difference, nor release me from my reservation the next day. After a call to them from booking.com the best they could do was to put us in a extraordinarily dismal studio, larger, but with no window, instead a ceiling hatch. I checked out the next, day since the smell of the sewage was not what I was hoping for during my stay, besides the impossible noise outside until 3:00 am. I actually paid not to stay there, we left in the morning elsewhere regardless of the fact they would not refund us. On another note, there should be laws against decorators defacing historical building, the Pepto-Bismo pink all over the place can make you sick. (Horrible) The trick of continue the rug into the wall should have ended back in the seventies, it is still looks cheap. The whole room was beat up and outdated, a shabby, minus the chic stay. The lack of check-in in the premises is another downer. My advice to anyone thinking of booking at Marquis Portargo is stay clear, there are far better experiences in Granada. Don’t spoil your stay.

This review is for the apartments that are maintained by the hotel remotely. One star for location and one star for the comfy bed. The rest of it is an epic fail. The apartment is very tired and in great need of a lick of paint. There is an overall feeling that the owners don't really care. The total lack of equipment in the apartment was frustrating to say the least....a sponge had been left in the kitchen with some washing up liquid but unfortunately there was no plug for the sink and no basin. Went to open a bottle of wine - no corkscrew, or rather the carcass of the corkscrew was present but the screw wasn't. Thankfully we carry our own for just such occasions. Then we discovered that there were no wine glasses, just 2 different tumblers which I was dubious about even putting water in. Preparation of food was impossible, there were no knives to chop and there wasn't even a bread knife to cut the fresh bread provided by the nearby shop. There was no kettle and no coffee machine. Basically, even eating breakfast in the apartment was nigh on impossible. The remote for the nice flat screen TV did not work either. Next time we visit Granada we will NOT be returning here but will book a hotel, of which there are plenty and, I expect of a decent standard. Come on Portago, get your act together and stop taking the tourists for mugs.
