PARADOR

The paradore has it's own private parking which is worth going for. However getting there is an act of faith by following the paradore signs of increasingly narrow and pedstrian thronged streets. Do not despair but wide vehicles might want to recce on foot first. The paradore is good and in a great position. Interesting building dating back to Charles I (or V - father of Philip II, of Armada notoriety). Breakfast good, typical parador setup. They don't serve evening meals but drinks on the terrace overlooking the estuary and border with France is very pleasant. Plenty of bars in the square right outside the paradore entrance.

Beautiful, centrally located house

The accommodation is well-preserved; it is an old castle with an austere style and a terrace with spectacular views. I would only improve the noise level. The rooms that face the interior courtyard where breakfast is served receive all the noise from the service because the staff is very careless when cleaning up. In a parador, one expects tranquility, and it is quite easy to achieve with staff who are conscientious and serious about their work. The silence and calm have not been up to par.
