I've been to the Formigal hotel multiple times. The first time as a child at Easter 1975. We repeat many holy weeks in a row and years later I have returned on several occasions. I never found it wrong until this time. I will start with the positive, the room is spacious with a table and chairs to sit on and good terrace overlooking the slopes. The acceptable value for money (assuming how much hotels have risen since the pandemic) and was cheaper than other 4 star hotels in Formigal although their current service does not deserve 4 stars at all. The drivers of the vans that took us to the very friendly and helpful tracks (as opposed to the edges the waiters were).
Now I tell the bad, the room is old (though paint in good condition) and the floors creak so much that it is impossible to get up at night without waking your partner. The bed, although not uncomfortable, is of poor quality and the box springs creak when moving. To highlight negatively the lack of cleaning, when the water lid arrived it had traces of urine in its lower part (it is the first time in my life that I found the stained water when taking possession of the room). The bathroom radiator with powder of weeks (or months). The terrace chair so dirty you couldn't sit. The sink top was broken from side to side. The breakfast is chaotic, poorly served, of very low quality and full of deficiencies. I'd have to write five sheets to tell all your faults, but I'll try to sum it up. On the first day, faced with the inefficiency (and antipathy) of the waiters we had to collect the cups and remains of the previous service and put them on the next table and clean the table a little with paper napkins. The quality of the food is very low with cold cuts and plastic cheeses, very bad potato tortilla, even worse smoked salmon (I, who am fond of Nordic breakfasts with smoked, tried a slice and left it for its pasty texture and unpleasant taste). The first day we went down at 8:30 and many fountains were empty. Every day we lacked utensils, some days there were no spoons, others there were no plates or bowls and when they asked for it they looked at you in bad ways, or they lacked napkins, or sugar... that is to say continuous shortages and you had to look for your life to get everything. Of the three days I have been alone one I have achieved hot milk for coffee (the machines give you only coffee and then you have to add the milk). The second day there was no butter and a waiter told me he was sorry but it had run out and they expected to receive it that day. The next day I had breakfast at 9:30 and there was also no butter and when I was going to leave they took out a bowl of about 10 or 15 servings of butter. My sister-in-law had to go into the kitchen to get a spoon so her granddaughter could drink cereal and told us it was tasty. I have been to many hotels throughout my life, of all categories, and I have never suffered such a bad and chaotic breakfast.
I didn’t know the Snö chain (the hotel is now called Snö Formigal) but, from what I have seen on this occasion, the services and quality of the traditional Formigal hotel have deteriorated markedly, a pity. I'll think long and hard before I go back to a hotel in that chain.
