Parador de Jaen

We stayed here for one night on our way back north after staying in the south. It is a truly spectacular setting and husband's satnav found it a challenge to send us up the hill the right way. However once we were there we had free parking (rare these days!) and once we were settled in our room (smaller than others we had stayed in on our trip however well planned and equipped) with a fabulous view over the hills behind. A small terrace for cold drinks and a bar snack lunch. We were a bit tired after our long drive so didn't do much after our late lunch (husband found football on TV), no tea or coffee in room but probably no space for it. We had booked half board so were dining in the restaurant. The public rooms are truly impressive, the history of the place goes back to before the 12th century. Unfortunately a big meat heavy Parador dinner defeated me, we should have stuck to bar food. Usual good Parador breakfast buffet before another long drive. Definitely worth a visit.

A spectacular location. The building is a marvel. The rooms are very pleasant; we were given one facing the mountain with incredible views. The inn is located on a hill on the outskirts of Jaén, but you can take a taxi to the center, and it is not expensive.

Beautiful hotel in rebuilt castle next to the old one. Impressive spaces especially the bar and dining room. Dinner is delicious. There are terraces but limited, actually too hot outside. The rooms with odd numbers have the least view. The even numbers overlook valley and hills. Breakfast is ok but not impressive. You can order various preparations of egg fresh. There was only one staff member for the whole breakfast room when we were there, he was quite busy. Separately: everyone gets their own bamboo grabber to take things from the buffet. The standard rooms are not very large, but fine. Worth seeing is the central lounge, very nice. If you like birds: take your viewers!
