Hotel Rural Los Caracoles

An extremely disappointing dining experience in the hotel restaurant. My son and I both ordered the chicken escalope with pepper sauce which was completely inedible. The service in the restaurant was very poor. Our waiter barely communicated with us and when he saw me hand back a three quarters full plate he never inquired if there was a problem with the food.

I booked to stay here as part of a Christmas gift for my husband.I had previously booked another hotel very close by who were kind enough to let us know that their restaurant would be closed and gave us the option of cancelling. Los Caracoles ,however,not only didn’t inform us that theirs would be closed but sent an email confirming restaurant hours that meant it would be open.Understand that this hotel is miles from anywhere- no option to walk out elsewhere. I had replied to their email asking us,for their convenience,to check in online and requested a table for 8.30 pm.They didn’t reply- only another email just before we arrived at the hotel to give us instructions and key code to access our room.This is not a hotel.Less than Airbnb because it doesn’t offer facilities to cater for yourself. Just a bedroom somewhere which you have to find for yourself in the motel style location after accessing their email to get a key code.If my husband hadn’t been with me I would have had no means of accessing their email. We walked high above the ( closed) reception to try to find the restaurant to check our table reservation. We had seen that the bar was also closed but ‘ knew’from their check in information that the restaurant was open.Realised after a complete waste of time and effort in freezing cold,that the closed bar WAS the restaurant.As no food meant we couldn’t stay there, instead of trekking off to find our room we sat on the terrace and my husband rang one of their contact numbers.A very helpful lady promised to ring back.Getting colder,we spoke to some newly arrived guests who were struggling to get their key and who were also horrified that the only food option was closed as they also had no food.The lady never returned the call and further attempts to ring that number were unsuccessful.I then rang their alternative number.An equally helpful young man promised to ring back. We booked a hotel in Nerja and 5 days later are still waiting for either of them to ring back. I have sent a number of emails including one replying to their’ thank you for trusting us with your stay.We look forward to welcoming you back.Please help us improve’ I have received no replies to any.

Very nice accommodation with restaurant close to Frigiliana and Cueva de Nerja. Relaxing breakfast on the terrace with a nice view.
