Van Gogh was unsuccessful during his lifetime, and was considered a madman and a failure. He became famous after his suicide, and exists in the public imagination as the quintessential misunderstood genius, the artist "where discourses on madness and creativity converge".
Much the same can be said of Hostal Vincent Van Gogh. Unappreciated in its time, future generations will reflect on a period where the city of Seville was blessed to have such an facility within the boundaries of its own city.
It’s unclear whether or not Van Gogh himself ever stayed at Hostal Vincent Van Gogh. Many believe he visited briefly during his lifetime and fathered a son. A man came to our room to distribute the nightly shot of penicillin who had only one ear, so he may have been a descendent.
If you get the opportunity to stay at Hostal Vincent Van Gogh, please take it. It may only have one star, but that star burns brightly in the night sky.

I really liked the place for its fabulous location just out of the main cathedral. Tram line also runs at a distance of 200 meters. Main train station, plaza de armas is 15-20 mins walk away.
The nearby university area is happening and all local eateries are also close by.
Wifi was good. The guy at the reception was extremely helpful and hospitable.
Only problem was room size, bed size and space in front of the toilet. for anyone over 5.5 feet, it could be a real space constraint. So specify a bigger room with a window as a pre requirement and you are good.
Also, there is no lift if you are carrying heavy baggage.

This small hostal is right in the centre of Seville - a few paces away from the Cathedral. The rooms are small but they all have an a/c and an ensuite, which are big pluses, especially if you are visiting in the hot season.
The receptionists (Diego and Maria) do not speak a word of English, and my partner and I do not speak Spanish. Yet somehow, we always managed to communicate well and they attended to our needs immediately. Very lovely people!
You will not find double beds, although not very difficult to move them closer together (although somehow, they do not do it!) You won't find any shower gel, which is a bit of a nuisance, especially if you are travelling with a hand luggage only (due to restrictions on liquids on airplanes), but other than that I seriously recommend this hostel. You get what you pay for. If you need a four or five star service, reserve elsewhere. This is just a small hostel where you can sleep in comfortably after a day out visiting the place.
