Villa Romana

Short walk to shops and beach. Very busy hotel, entertainment team seem really friendly, restaurant hosts are lovely, bar/wait staff not great, bit grumpy. Food is fine - lots of choice but I wish the hot food was hot and not lukewarm!! There needs to be a table booking system - I sat at an empty table last night and was told to move by another guest as it was theirs?!!! Rooms are fabulous - cleaned daily and very modern. Fridges could be colder. Only disappointment is a fellow guest who insists on smoking weed on the balcony every day………

It has been super mega cool 😎 . Mireia is our number one entertainer. Very varied buffet and with charcoal for the meats. Very pleasant spa and large outdoor pool. We will return.

Got off to a less than satisfactory start when we arrived. A month before I had sent an email asking if we could be accommodated on a lower floor and got a very positive reply saying everything would be done to help make this possible, on arrival we were told we were on the fifth floor, bearing in mind there are only five floors so the total antithesis of my request, after a conversation with the less than welcoming front of house receptionist we were given a room on floor 3. Better but not the best. We were then charged €25 for the use of the safe and unbelievably €16 for a kettle, never have we encountered this in a 4 star hotel before and obviously there was the tourist tax of €27. The receptionist who checked us in really shouldn’t be the face of La. Vila Romana. This is where the gripes end. Overall the hotel is a nice place to stay, clean, quiet at night with pleasant rooms and nicely appointed bathroom. The food was excellent at all three sittings and the variety is huge so nobody apart from the fussiest of eaters would go hungry. One thing I would say is that more coffee machines are needed at breakfast as the queues are always long. We didn’t encounter any problems getting sunbeds each day but in school holidays it is probably an issue, I also agree with previous observations about the Lifeguards who do just literally sit on their phones all day, not once did we see them walk round the pool or move from their seats and phones. The hotel is a little further from the beach than we would have liked but taxis are in abundance so not a problem if you want to spend a day by the sea. The pool is fresh but not freezing due to the hot weather and it could do with a clean as a lot of sand sits on the bottom in many places. Apart from the receptionist we could all the staff to be really pleasant. Housekeeping was excellent and our room serviced to a high standard on a daily basis. For such a large hotel it is run extremely well and with the water slides I’m sure our granddaughter would love it so may well bring her here in the future. Salou is a nice place to be especially on the sea front. It feels safe and caters for everyone. Would we stay again? Yes as for value for money it would be hard to beat for what is on offer. My only advice would be ditch the safe and the kettle charges as it is 2026 and it’s the little bit of difference that makes the difference.
