I am an 82 year old lady having had two weeks restorative Yoga and Ayurveda retreat at Mangrove villa. It’s the second time I do it and both times have been very successful. The personal touch Roshan has towards his guests makes it feel like a homestay. He is an excellent cook and serviceminded. So is his assistant Lakmal, the masseuse Anne and the Ayurveda dr, whose name I have forgotten. The Yogamaster Silva had all my limbs, tissues, bandhas and chakras working before taking us to Pranayama, Shavasana and meditation in a gentle way. It was a peaceful stay in the mangrove alongside the Bentota river. I highly recommend a tour with the canoe into the surprisingly meditative stillness inside the mangroves. Enjoy your stay in Roshan's rich garden filled with monkeys, chirping birds, lizards, two lovely dogs and interesting talks with interesting people. Janka from Norway January 15, 2026

I've stayed for 7 days, always surrounded by nature with plenty of time to rest and also to do yoga and ayurvedic massages. Meals are all with natural ingredients and very tasty. The room was spacious and had a nice view. It was never boring as I could either do canoeing on the Bentota river, going to the island temple, read a book or chat with other guests. Staff is super nice and helped me every time I needed.

I experienced a place in Sri Lanka that truly touched me on a deep level. This is not a typical hotel or luxury resort. It is more like a large, living garden surrounded by nature, mangroves, and Ayurveda. Everything is kept very simple. The garden itself is a bit wild and slightly unpolished, but that is part of its honesty and charm. What makes this place truly special are the people. Calm, empathetic, respectful, conscious, and quietly inspiring. I felt personally seen and deeply welcomed. The founder is a true person of the heart, and this spirit can be felt throughout the entire place. The food was authentic, nourishing, and prepared with care — simple, local, and deeply connected to the culture and Ayurvedic way of life. If you are looking for a perfectly manicured, luxurious hotel with high-end spa facilities and polished comfort, this is not the right place for you. But if you are seeking pure nature, authenticity, humanity, empathy, and holistic rest, then you will feel very at home here. There is a beautiful beach nearby, yet the true richness of this place lies in the stillness and the space it offers for inner reflection and personal growth. For anyone seeking conscious rest and inner balance, this Mangrove Villa is a very special place. I stayed here throughout December, and despite reports of flooding in other parts of Sri Lanka during that time, I personally did not experience or notice any flooding at all during my entire stay
