As disclosure, I am a typical Four Seasons, Aman Resorts... etc 5-star hotel customer and this is a 3+ star hotel i.m.o.
Having said that, the hotel delivers on its promises. You cannot review it as a 5 star hotel when it is not.
All staff but one sour lady in the bar/restaurant were super friendly and helpful accommodating any requests.
My room was one of the larger in two floors with the bedroom on the etage. It was hot weather during my stay and the room lacks A/C equipment which made it somewhat difficult to sleep well. Another thing that did not help me were the thick synthetic foam pillows. The room was clean, equipped both with a shower and a bathtub, a premium Nespresso coffee machine and a refrigerator for use by the guest. No minibar was provided. The downstairs had a TV-/living room with comfortable seating for 3-4 people and a large enough TV where I watched some World Cup football matches.
One odd thing was that you have to request room cleaning, change of sheets etc. before 23:00 the night before or housekeeping wont even enter your room. All I needed for the first 2 nights though were restocking of coffee capsules and some fresh towels, both of which I could easily collect from the reception. I heard no noise from inside the hotel in my room but given the central location there were some disturbing sounds from the street after Sweden's World Cup match especially. I had to sleep with windows open due to the lack of A/C.
The hotel has a small gym with a treadmill, some free weights (up to 20kg I believe), a rack and bench for benchpress etc. plus a cable machine which was broken when I visited. All-in-all sufficient for a workout even if the space clearly would be enough for another 1-2 machines.
The hotel breakfast is very good for a hotel of this level. Nothing is at the luxury level but there are plenty of options for anyone to find something they will like. The one thing I would complain on is that the coffee provided for was not good enough.
For dinner there were only a few options, all well.made but you would probably be bored after 2 diners there. Atmosphere ok to good.
Arriving by car it was super easy to park just across the street a short 50 meter walk from the hotel entrance.
In summary, this is not a luxury retreat but serves its purpose very well, is well-located in Borlänge, has very friendly staff (with one exception), a good enough restaurant, a workable gym and some other positives too (like a table tennis room and a play room for smaller children for example).
Value for money was not great but this was due to the very big football cup going on while I was there.
If they would get optional feather pillows, install A/C equipment and add a couple of more items to their a la carte dinner menu I would give the hotel a 5 star rating within their segment of the hotel market, now it is a 3+/4 star rating.
