Luxury Apartments Stockholm

A posh and quiet neighborhood (Ostermalm). We had an apartment at the back on the 4th floor. Is was clean, quiet, and very nice for our 3 day weekend. Good, soft bed. Check in and out were all virtual, and easy. Would prefer any time above a hotel!

The apartment on the fifth floor at Grevgatan 10 is a short walk from the island of Djurgården where many museums are located (Vasa etc.) and there are two different mini supermarkets about two blocks away. It is five-minute walk to catch a tram into the city centre. There is a good view of the street and harbour from the balcony and the rooms are quiet, airy and sunny. The kitchen is small but it has a good size refrigerator and everything you need, in any case we didn’t cook that many meals and there is a pleasant little dining room, with a window onto the street, in which to eat breakfast. The neighbourhood is respectable. The laundry is in the basement with two machines and dryers; ensure you book a time slot on the list, and when we stayed (May) it wasn’t busy.

My wife and I occasionally enjoy staying at apartments during our travels in order to get a feel for local neighborhoods and customs. It also allows us to cook dinner, a welcome respite from constantly eating out. In Stockholm, we stayed at a studio apartment on the fifth floor (the building has a lift) at Grevgatan 10 for three nights. A picture of the room is on the Luxury Apartment web page. It was centrally located in Östermalm off of Strandvägen which runs along the harbor. It was one step up or down from the various apartments I lived in during college and graduate school. It was clean and contained the basic necessities: a decent bed, tv, relatively fast internet, cookware, plates etc., a coffee maker and a small table in the kitchen. The studio was $180.00/night, approximately half of what we have been paying for a hotel room during our trip. The problem is that there is an Italian restaurant across the street. And it has been warm in Stockholm necessitating opening the windows at night since the apartment has no air conditioning. The noise from the diners at the tables on the street outside the restaurant was bad enough, since it reverberated along the narrow street. However, at 4:00 am the restaurant workers leave the restaurant jovially screaming at each other after their night's work. That screaming awakened both my wife and me on successive mornings. Perhaps this noise is indicative of life in Stockholm and we achieved our desire to sample local color. However, it made for an unpleasant stay and, hence, the unfavorable rating.
