Claridge Swiss Quality Hotel

Small hotel on a quiet street, not too far of a walk to activities and sites. We were not comfortable because the AC was not adjustable and the room was uncomfortably warm, even when using a fan they gave us. They do have AC, but they keep it set so low that it really does not cool your room and it was 86 degrees (outside) when we stayed there. I estimate the room was about 78 degrees. I say estimate because the thermostat does not tell you the temperature it is set at and when we asked the staff they did not know, but it was warm, not cool at all. The elevator is extremely small. My husband and I had to take turns using it as the two of us barely fit in there and there was no way we could fit with even one piece of luggage. The shower is also small, so larger guests may find it uncomfortable. Also, we paid ahead for bed and breakfast but had to leave earlier than breakfast was served and they would not credit us the 20 each charged.

This is my second time staying at Hotel Swiss Night by Fassbind. Last time I traveled with my family and stayed in a triple room. This time I was by myself and stayed in a Superior Single. I like this hotel because of its location — close enough to old town but in a very quiet, residential neighborhood, and close to the Opera House. My Superior Single is on the 3rd floor. My only complaint is the single room is next to the elevator, so there is some mechanical noise when the elevator is being operated. Otherwise, the room is fairly spacious, with a very large bathroom! There is a kettle inside the room and also a safe. I pre-paid for the hotel breakfast (20 CHF) as there isn't much nearby the hotel to grab food in the morning. The spread is fine, not a huge selection but enough to get you going for the day. The closest tram stop is Kunsthaus which is a 3-min walk, and there you can take trams 8 or 9 that go down the hill to Bellevue and Bürkliplatz, or tram 3 that goes to main train station (3 stops). Or you can simply walk down to Limmatquai in < 10 minutes.

Nice and clean, comfortable rooms. Well decorated. Nice staff. Good breakfast options. Well situated for spending time in the old town.
