Sofitel Zurich

I stayed in this hotel from 3-5 July. I am a longstanding Accor Loyalty Programme member and this is my first negative experience of an Accor Hotel. As a gold member, I am entitled to be offered an upgrade if available. Whilst I never expect an upgrade, in this instance I really feel I was automatically allocated a downgrade. My allocated room was disabled access which meant the bathroom was essentially a wet room with an unhygienic shower curtain, it had zero AC and no in-room safe. Additionally the bathroom smelled of rotten drains. After much negotiation with the front desk staff, we managed to secure a fan to alleviate the heat, and thankfully they managed to deal with the rotten drains smell. At check in I was not given a map of the locality, WiFi access info or details on breakfast. Accor members receive a free welcome drink at the bar during each stay. In all my years as an Accor member, this is the very first time that we were treated like second class citizens for using this voucher. The tall thin blond lady working in the bar on Friday 3 July did not treat us well at all. Usually, guests take a seat and drinks with complimentary nibbles are brought to them. This is the very first time I have experienced deliberately different treatment for the loyal Accor members. We were not offered complimentary nibbles and required to wait at the bar for the drinks whilst all paying customers were treated differently. When I offered to show the server the redeemed vouchers she specifically stated that I only needed to redeem them and not show them to her. She then waited for me to close the app before demanding to see them, and with signal being weak this took unnecessary time. She made us very uncomfortable throughout our interaction with her. The breakfast at the hotel is fine and the hotel location is good. Ibrahim on reception was very helpful when asked for tourism advice. The bar staff working on Sat 4 July were friendly and helpful and treated us well (however we were paying that day). If travelling to Zurich again, I would avoid this hotel at all costs.

The location is very convenient and close to Zurich HB; it takes about 15 minutes to walk with luggage due to a slight incline, but without bags, you can take a shortcut via the stairs and arrive in just 5 minutes. The 15 sq.m. room I booked is fine for one person but would feel cramped for two, especially since the bathroom has clear glass walls that offer no privacy while showering. Regarding service, don't expect smiles or greetings as it's just the local culture, and at breakfast, staff may direct you to find another colleague for assistance yourself. For laundry, coin-operated machines are available (5 CHF to wash, 5 CHF to dry, and 3 CHF for a single-use detergent), but remember to press the power button before inserting coins, then select the water level and hit play. Most importantly, there is a Thai restaurant right across the street owned by Aom that serves authentic, delicious Thai food and stays open until around 10:00 PM - I highly recommend trying it. เดินทางสะดวกมาก ใกล้กับสถานีรถไฟ Zurich HB ถ้ามีกระเป๋าเดินทางจะเดินมา 15 นาที เพราะมีทางลาดขึ้นเล็กน้อยๆแต่ไม่ชันมาก แต่ถ้าเดินโดยไม่มีกระเป๋าจะมีทางบันไดลัดไปสถานีเพียง 5 นาทีก็ถึง ขนาดของโรงแรมที่จองห้องเล็ก 15 ตรม. อยู่คนเดียวโอเค แต่ถ้าสองคนคิดว่าจะอึดอัด สำคัญคือห้องอาบน้ำเป็นกระจกใสเลย เวลาอาบถ้ามีอีกคนนึงอยู่จะเห็นทั้งหมด การบริการไม่ต้องไปคิดมาก เพราะคนที่นี่ไม่ยิ้มไม่ทักทายอยู่แล้ว เบรคฟาสถ้าต้องการอะไร พนักงานจะบอกให้เราไปถามเพื่อนร่วมงานอีกคนนึงเอาเอง แต่เข้าใจวัฒนธรรมมาแล้วเลยมองผ่านไปได้ครับ มีเครื่องซักผ้าหยอดเหรียญให้ต้องไปแลกเหรียญที่หน้าฟร้อนราคาซัก 5 CHF อบ 5 CHF น้ำยาซักผ้า 3 CHF (อันเล็กอันเดียวใช้ได้ครั้งเดียว) เวลาซักต้องกดปุ่มเปิดก่อนแล้วค่อยหยอดเหรียญแล้วมากดระดับน้ำแล้วจึงกดปุ่มเพลย์ ที่สำคัญตรงข้ามโรงแรมมีร้านอาหารไทยของคุณอ้อม ทำอร่อยมากรสชาติคนไทยเลย อยากให้ไปลองทานเปิดถึงดึกประมาณสี่ทุ่ม

The room is cold and uncomfortable. The air conditioning is not working / has been switched off by the hotel, and the staff are offering no solution other than additional blankets
