Sternen-Oerlikon

We travelled up to Zurich for a Saturday night to watch a show at the Theatre (Theatre 11), so we wanted something nearby - so this was a great find! It's only about 15 minutes away on the tram from the main station, so super convenient. The check-in/-out times are great; we were able to have a super lazy morning rather than rushing to get out. The room was super clean and the bed was comfortable. I'm not a fan of European pillows (the ones that are big but paper-thin), but that is just a personal preference. Good value for money as well - didn't break the bank, but not cheap. District 11 is a cute little place and worth a wander around if you have some time to spare; much calmer than the city center. There are a few good coffee shops within 5 minutes as well, so that's always a great way to start the day. We'll be back the next time we want to see a show!

Zurich is expensive, so I guess this hotel's rates would be considered mid-range/affordable, but it's pricy for what you get (no included breakfast, clean but very dated 80s decor, location away from central/historic part of city). So if you've never been to Zurich, I'd recommend staying closer to the central part of the city or neighborhoods near the lake - but if like me, you've been to the city before and just need a hotel close to public transportation to get to the airport for an early flight, this hotel is decent option. It's less than a 10 minute walk from the train stop on the train line that goes to/from airport to central train station, and so it was easy to get to get here from a long-distance train arrival late at night and then also get back to airport on time in the morning for an early flight.

We spent two nights at Hotel Sternen Oerlikon in October. The hotel was very convenient to transit, being just a hundred meters from the Tram stop, which is 10 minutes from the airport, and 20 minutes from the Bahnhof. The staff was very helpful, the room was very comfortable and we would gladly stay here again if we return to Zurich. The neighborhood has multiple restaurants and an Irish pub, as well as a COOP store - so very easy to enjoy.
