Hotel Royal St Georges Interlaken - MGallery

The hotel is located in an ideal spot, close to the center and not very far from the Interlaken Ost train station; it offers a magnificent view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. The building has a beautiful historic facade dating from 1908. The interior blends a classic baroque style and Art Nouveau touches; the rooms and suites entice with their historic or more contemporary design.

We only had drinks at the bar but it was amazing

The second hotel for my Swiss trip is the MGallery in Interlaken. Unlike typical standard hotel reviews, I’m taking a tailored approach here—evaluating it strictly as a boutique four-star property rather than running my usual ultra-luxury audit. The reason is simple: it’s unfair to judge a heritage four-star European boutique against modern mega-luxuries in Asia. Doing so only highlights a complete lack of hospitality exposure and benchmarking basics. For a four-star hotel in a small European town, my baseline expectations were reasonable. Breakfast: Edible, proper, and surprisingly decent—a low bar, perhaps, but a very welcome baseline after some truly disastrous stays elsewhere in Europe. Dinner: Genuinely impressive. Take a look at the Ratatouille: the presentation shows real kitchen effort, and the seasoning was fresh, appetizing, and spot on. Service: I respect raw honesty. The waiter insisted on seating me outside, explaining that since every other guest was outdoors, leaving me inside alone might cause a service lapse. That kind of straightforward professionalism and self-awareness wins my respect every time. And he actually delivered. Many complaints online claim this hotel is "outdated." I completely disagree. This property was built in the early 20th century and renovated in 2022. The aesthetic is pure classic European charm—think heritage London luxury or traditional British countryside retreats. If someone can’t distinguish between authentic historical architecture and actual physical wear-and-tear, they simply shouldn't be booking historic properties in the first place. A Few Pleasant Surprises: 1. Real A/C: It features a proper Mitsubishi Electric unit that actually keeps the room cold—a rare blessing in European summer temperatures of 25–26°C. 2. Superior Soundproofing: My room faced the train tracks directly, but closing the heavy windows resulted in total, complete silence. 3. Price vs. Reality: At ~400 CHF/night in a prime Swiss hotspot, it offers serious value. You could easily pay triple just down the road for glitz, busy carriage traffic, and constant noise, but I’d rather keep my money and get a solid night's sleep. 4. Housekeeping & Cleanliness: Spotless bathroom, lovely Clarins toiletries, and zero hygiene issues. Evaluating a hotel requires understanding geographic constraints, historical context, and target tiers. It’s easy for anyone to pick flaws; knowing how to properly benchmark price against performance is the real test. The MGallery Interlaken delivers exactly what a solid four-star heritage property should. (And no, don't ask about a pool or gym—it doesn't have one).
