Best Western Silberhorn

The Hotel Silberhorn is ideally located directly beside Wengen station and next to a supermarket, making it extremely convenient. Our room was clean, and the reception team were the warmest, friendliest and most helpful staff we experienced during our time in Switzerland. The breakfast selection looked decent and the food appeared to be of good quality. Unfortunately, there was a serious problem with flies, which were landing all over the uncovered food. The staff in the breakfast room appeared to regard this as normal and made no attempt to cover or protect the items. We decided not to eat breakfast because we did not want to take the risk. I raised the issue with reception and was told that flies are common in Switzerland at this time of year. That may be true, but flies exist everywhere during warmer weather. Hotels and restaurants still need proper management systems in place to keep them away from food. The food should be covered and protected. The water pressure in our room was also extremely poor. The shower produced little more than a dribble. The shower curtain covered only half of the bath and appeared to be positioned at the wrong end. The showering space was already very narrow, so we were left trying to wash under a weak flow of water while constantly fighting to stop the curtain from sticking to us. It made a basic function unnecessarily unpleasant. Another surprise was finding a price list beside the in-room tea and coffee facilities charging CHF 1 for a coffee capsule, instant coffee or a tea bag, with milk powder and sugar priced at CHF 0.50 each. The card did not state that these charges applied only to additional supplies or refills, so it appeared that even the basic refreshments placed in the room were chargeable. This was a first for us. Switzerland often seems unusually focused on additional charges, whether for tap water in restaurants or even a tea bag in a hotel room. Overall, the Silberhorn is a clean, well-located and otherwise well-run hotel with an exceptionally pleasant reception team. It is therefore a real shame that the breakfast hygiene concerns, poor shower facilities and unnecessary extra charges significantly spoiled our experience.

We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and the staff was SO friendly. She personally walked up a plate of Swiss chocolates to our room after we checked in. They were always polite everyone we walked through the doors and made us feel right at home. The rooms were nice and comfortable. Even though we were here during the heat wave and there’s no sit conditioning, they already had a fan on in our room near the bed. This was the third hotel we’ve stayed in during our trip to Switzerland and it was by far the best! We wish we could stay longer! Our room had an incredible view of Jungfrau and monch.
