Lovely first impression - good size room, nice food, although menu limited. But after our 2nd evening meal, we were told the restaurant & bar would not be open for the Tuesday & Wednesday. Since part of our driving holiday is the ability have a meal in-house, no need to drive after a busy day out & we could have a drink. We had even confirmed with Booking.com before travelling but they did not have the low season information & had not realised that September would be "low" season! We therefore took the 10 minute walk down into the village & enjoyed a great meal at the "Gade" which had a much larger menu. However, the uphill climb took twice as long for 2 Oldies & not pleasant on a dry but very chilly night (worse if raining!) particular at our age, (75 & 81). The village has rail & bus stations, some tickets free if staying in a local hotel; plenty of walks to find & a few small cafes & restaurants.

Rooms simple but everything available; cleaning at the beginning perfect, then descending; staff very friendly and warm; breakfast buffet rich; very good quality; everything fresh; very good bread; only negative point; vacuuming during breakfast. All cable cars are free to use with the hotel's guest card. Room with balcony; view of the mountains and the Geissen enclosure! Restaurant Chupferchessi (run separately): Special, creative variations of mixed salads. Meat always fried up point, well seasoned. Staff very friendly and warm, unfortunately a bit scattered! All around perfect; highly recommended! top chef; top cuisine; short; superb

The bad comments are not very helpful and I absolutely cannot confirm them. The tenants changed around 1.5 years ago, we found that out in a conversation with Barbara, who now runs the hotel. Arthur is the chef who has the kitchen absolutely under control. The whole team is super nice. The kitchen is fantastic, despite high occupancy the food came quickly. It was so delicious!! Everything is always fresh for the children too, even the chicken nuggets are homemade. Not run-of-the-mill from a bag. Breakfast is top notch and it has everything you need. Coffee machine for various coffees, Ovo and various teas. We had the Superior Alpenchic family room. The room (parents' bedroom, children's room and living room) was modern and very spacious with a large balcony with a view and a Nespresso machine in the room. The room was always well cleaned and towels changed as needed. Since it is a wooden house you sometimes hear footsteps from above, but it was absolutely not bad and normal for the house. It has a kind of lounge with toys, reading chairs, books and a minibar with self-service snacks and a cash box. There is also a free parking lot, which we always used at Schopf. There is also one in front of the house. You can go straight in there with your suitcases. There is no lift, but you can easily walk up the few stairs. Everything in the village can be reached on foot or by bus. Our children loved playing chess in the garden and felt very comfortable in the family hotel! There is a ski cellar, but we didn't use it because we had rented a locker at the mountain station. In short: thank you for the warm hospitality and we will definitely come back! Whether for a meal (which you can do without being a hotel guest) or to stay overnight. :-) Hotel with charm!
