Lake Geneva Hotel

Great location just over the road from the station with trains every 10 minutes to Geneva, the view is amazing worth paying extra for a room with a view! Staff were very friendly and spoke great English! Aldi and Coop very close by as well as a swimming area in the lake! We ate at the restaurant the night we arrived and again the atmosphere and view was fab. A little bit of a shame to not have air conditioning but we had temperatures of 30-40 degrees and the room seemed to keep cool with a fan and blinds closed!

Stayed for 3 days in the hottest part of the summer - 35 degrees and above. Room was basic but OK however as the hotel controls the A/C level (which seems to just mean its off), the room was very hot! It required a fan to be on constantly to be comfortable but it's hard to sleep with a rattling, noisy fan next to your bed so bear that in mind if you book for the summer. Rooms had no coffee/tea facilities or fridge and during the 3 days I only received 1 small bottle of water - perhaps it was one bottle per person regardless of the length of stay. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and the food was very tasty but the portion was small for the price (we both had "lamb rack" but it was really just two small pieces of lamb meat, no rack in sight, for 38 CHF). The desert "Trilogie gourmande" was really tasty and excellent value for 9 CHF. When I checked in I was surprised that they blocked 150 euros on my credit card "for damages" as it seemed a lot (particularly with no minibar) but agreed at the start for them to charge it - a total of almost 700 CHF including the fee for the room and deposit. However, when I checked out, the receptionist asked again for my card to settle the bill (and refund the deposit). I queried this as they had already taken the approx. 700 CHF at the start to cover the bill but she replied it was their usual process. I did notice she kept looking at the original receipt intently during all of this, which I thought was odd at the time. I decided to check my credit card balance there and then, as it all just seemed a little weird. I discovered the receptionist had charged ANOTHER almost 500 CHF to my card, so I now had one fee of 700 CHF and another of 500CHF on my card. As I questioned her, she seemed unsettled and defensive and finally admitted that she couldn't read the code on the original charge receipt so she had decided to charge it again!!! It looked like they had spilt something on the original receipt although she claimed the printer had gone wrong. Regardless, their mistake does not mean you can lie to the customer and charge their card twice without mentioning it. She claimed she was going to call the company later in the day and get the first charge cancelled but in my opinion that was not the point. She did not tell the truth and charged my card again without telling me she was doing so. I insisted on speaking to a manager and even though she claimed that was her initially, eventually the general manager appeared. He apologised half heartedly and said they would call and cancel the first charge as soon as possible and would email me when that was done. It took most of the day before the charge disappeared (lucky I did not need to use my card for my next hotel that day) and I'm still waiting on that email!

Location excellent less then 2 minutes from train station, selection of food stores and coffee shops. The weather was extremely HOT and there was no air conditioning night time was unbearable.....not suitable for a summer break.
