Grand Europe

We reserved 2 nights at the Continental Park Hotel, and that hotel experienced a fire so at midnight we were relocated to the Grand Hotel Europe! We went from crisis to grandeur. They gave us a very large room overlooking the lake. The A/C worked well and the included breakfast Buffett was delicious. But the best thing was the GM Conrad, he personally greeted us, consoled us about our experience at the other hotel, and had an employee do our laundry. That employee was Suzanne, a gem of a woman. Then when we were checking out, the GM helped us with our luggage, gave us his card, and had the front desk deliver water while we waited for an Uber. I wish we could give Conrad and his team 10 stars! He is a gifted leader, and I speak from years of experience in the hospitality industry!!

We had a great stay at Grand Hotel Europe. Our room was on floor 1 overlooking the lake and it was wonderful! We had a good sized room with a small balcony and air conditioning and the bathroom had 2 sinks, which was very much appreciated. Other reviews we saw described issues with the A/C, but ours worked just fine. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly and the location of the hotel is desirable. It’s a 20 minute walk to the center and the bus stops steps from the hotel. The breakfast was more than sufficient, thought it probably could be a little more elevated. We would definitely stay here again.

I had the misfortune of staying here as part of a tour group for 2 nights and had a horrible experience overall. Porters failed to deliver luggage to our room. A/C did not work in the room. No refrigerator in the room. I called and asked for one to be brought up and to their credit they did so. Safe was broken and we had to call someone up to fix it. Staff made efforts to resolve the issue in a timely manner. They came up quickly and replaced the batteries and it seemed to work. Later on, I tried to open it and the safe was stuck showing an error message and wouldn't work once again. So I had to call them up again and have them fix it. All the while we were short on time and had to get to a dinner reservation. Thankfully, they fixed it just in time. Later that evening at around 945pm, a staff member tried to open the door which linked to the adjoining room without our permission. Apparently, the neighboring room requested this by mistake. It was a very unpleasant situation and left me quite angry that they wouldn't double check with us before trying to open this door. Breakfast in the morning was a disaster as the buffet area was jam packed and the food quality mediocre at best and the staff seemed overwhelmed. Had dinner there and the food was also poor. The location was decent as it is across from the Lake and the downtown easily accessible by bus, but I was very disappointed and would never stay here if it wasn't for the fact that it was booked as part of our tour and was very happy to leave there as quickly as possible.
