After the stunning hotel we just left we headed to Switzerland and the Best Western Rebstock, we had stayed here a few years ago, but our memories of it were not great, getting older does that lol.
All I remember is the car park around the back, going down the steep slope only to have to go up loads of steps to get to the reception area, so we were fortunate that the disabled bay was available this trip, so we parked right outside the front door.
Checking in was a simple and pleasurable experience, the best this trip, the gentleman that served us was polite, friendly, was interested to hear where we had been and going, he then showed us where the lift was and restaurant, not pointed but actually took us there, and called the lift too, not had that service at any of the other hotels we visited on our trip and we have stayed in some really posh places.
He also advised that we had been upgraded to a better room with a view over the lake, which to be fair there was a view of the lake, once you saw past the adjoining roof full of solar panels, lol.
We had two bijou balconies one with a table and chairs, the room came with a really comfy bed and for once plenty of pillows that did not deflate as soon as you looked at them, so bonus points there.
Two bedside cabinets one with a phone and the other one with all the tea and coffee making equipment on, so both were a little cramped for space but it was ok, there was a table and two chairs and a single soft chair. A Suitcase stand was also available, and a wardrobe.
The bathroom was light and airy, no window, but enough lighting to not make that an issue, the shower was large and there was plenty of hot water and a powerful spray as well, it was nice to see face cloths available as well as soft towels, toiletries by the sink and in the shower were also available.
We booked a table for some dinner on our arrival, as it had been a long day, and we wanted to eat quickly and settle down, this was the only drawback, the delay firstly getting the menus, then ordering, waiting again for the menus and ordering dessert, it did not seem that busy, but I could be wrong.
I asked for a glass of Chardonnay, NO, asked for a glass of Pinot, NO, could not have that either, the first time I have ever been to a restaurant and been told I could not have either of these, so I opted for a Sprite instead, or At least a Swiss version of this.
The food we had was brought to us on hot plates, and it was all nicely cooked, and served up on the plate nicely too, for the price of the meal the vegetables looked like they were stock frozen veg, exactly the same as I use to produce meals for my mother in law, as she is unable to cook for herself at the moment.
The desserts we ordered were very nice whether they were £13 nice for what in essence was a banana, Scoops of Ice cream, cream and a wafer stick, I am not sure, but either way it was lovely.
After watching the football, yay the French are out so that’s a big bonus, we saw some international Snooker, and we turned in, the weather all evening was bad.
Thunder and lightning started while we were eating, and did not stop until around 4 am, or so I was advised, I slept through it all, the best nights sleep on our trip so far for me, but my better half was uncomfortable all night due to the heat, it was very warm all night, so the wi does were open, and so the thunder was loud, apparently, lol 😂
Breakfast was ok, some of everything no apple juice, but I had blackcurrant juice instead and that was nice, sharp, very sharp, but nice, we packed our car and went to reception to pay the bill, nearly £300 for one night, and a couple dinner for two, at £109 ish for the dinner we found that to be expensive, we paid less at a five star hotel that we stayed in a week ago. And it was a similar meal.
The hotel is very nice, clean and well maintained, the old style wood effect of the old style Swiss Cottage’s in the dining room was not out of place with the modern style rooms, there is only one disabled parking space here which is at least one too short, and the lift is just about big enough for three with some luggage, so a wheel chair user would fill it. There are steps up to the floors above, but the lift is reasonably quick.
All the staff were friendly, smiled and spoke English, some better than others but at least they are making the effort, it’s more than we can do, and that’s bad. And in leaving we were wished well in our onward journey. Overall a great stay marred by an overly expensive meal and slow service, but we had a good stay, and will likely stay again in the future.
