Walter Au Lac

We stayed five nights including breakfast, lake view. Premium Room. No balcony. The photos on the website are not representative of the room we had. This is essentially a bed and breakfast establishment - there are no “hotel facilities” as such, i.e. no bar, no lounge, no restaurant. Just a breakfast is provided. Although we had a Premium Room, we were wondering what the “premium” was … apart from the price!! Breakfast is good overall (not excellent). Plenty of staff. Plenty of different breakfast foods but if staying multiple nights, it gets slightly boring having exactly the same breakfast everyday. But the quality is ok, and the staff are very nice and the quality of the food is ok. Gluten free bread available, and lactose free cheese. This was much appreciated. Breakfast finishes at exactly 10am (the door to the breakfast room closes at that time) En-suite bathrooms are very old; the shower is SMALL (as well as being old) - we are not large people but the shower was small - see photos - in need of complete refurbishment; there is plastic ducting where electrical wires have been fitted; old hairdryer. There was a lack of hot water two mornings which the hotel fixed by the following day. Bedrooms are “ok”, but a bit “tired”. Bed comfortable but pillow was very hard Small television Air conditioning is ok Fridge No mirror (except in the bathroom)! This is not great when ladies are wanting Good coffee machine No ‘black-out’ curtains (these would be particularly useful as the sun rises facing all bedrooms!) Everywhere is clean and tidy; the Reception is nice - but the decor changes once you venture beyond Reception Good lift (there’s one lift) There’s a good rooftop terrace with basic furniture. Sunsets are behind the hotel so not enjoyed from the terrace (they can’t change the orientation of the hotel !!) Good location close to the town and the ferry. Not too far from the railway station. Would we stay here again? On balance, probably not.

Spontaneously booked and absolutely satisfied. Nice room with balcony and great lake view, delicious breakfast and very central location. The restaurant in the same building is also recommended. Thank you again.

We were not well received. Everything's out of date. We spent one night there. The next morning, the road was closed, because of a cycling race, which did not fail to wake us up at dawn. When we pointed it out to the receptionist, she told us that there were signs in the city indicating the race. This is the last time we will go to this establishment! Finally on a positive note: the view of the lake is beautiful.
